(Oh sure, sounds good)
(Okie doke!)
Devon said goodbye to Sebastian as he left, while she packed up her things. Before she could leave, one of her coworkers stopped her.
“Devon, come here,” Blaine called from the counter. She smiled at her friend as she made her way over. “Who was that?”
“Oh, that was Sebastian. He’s… my friend,” Devon explained, shifting Layla on her hip.
“Ah, I see… Is he, uh… Is he Layla’s dad?” the younger woman asked tentatively.
Devon blinked, her eyebrows shooting up at the question. “What? No, no. No, we just met a few months ago.”
“Oh… Sorry, Devon, I didn’t think… Right. Of course,” Blaine sighed, shaking her head. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have asked.”
“It’s— It’s okay. Layla is a long story, but I don’t really talk about that, so I understand how you mistook this.”
Sebastian unlocked to door to his apartment, sighing at the sight that greeted him. Small windows, barren walls, cramped kitchen, tiny couch and no dining table. He’d gotten used to eating at the kitchen counter, as well as not eating when bills got too hard to pay. And now that Devon would get a look at it….
(Do you want to skip to Saturday?)
Sure)
Devon pulled her hair back on the sides and clipped it up with a gold butterfly pin. She had decided on just wearing a plain black T-shirt with light jeans, and she was rather pleased with her appearance. That didn’t happen often these days, as she still had yet to lose some of the weight she’d gained from having Layla.
Sebastian was doing rounds of his apartment, sweeping up any remaining dust and making sure that it looked properly lived in and hospitable. He'd even found an old throw rug that matched his couch, washed it, and used it to decorate a little, since the only adornments the flat had were three or four old picture frames and the vase he'd filled with some fresh flowers.
After double-checking the address she had for Sebastian's place, she grabbed Layla and got in the car. In a few minutes, she was there, and she walked up to the door. Once she was inside, she headed to the room number Sebastian had told her, hesitating just a moment before knocking.
The loud knock that sounded through the apartment sent Sebastian into a panic. He whirled around, doing one last check. Anxiously pushing his hand into his hair, he told himself to calm down, that it was just Devon. Breathe..
Two seconds later, he was opening the door.
Devon smiled when Sebastian opened the door, and Layla immediately perked up.
"Hey, Sebastian," the woman greeted him at the same time her daughter bubbled, "Bahstin!"
(Bahstin!)
(Bahstin! lol)
(ah dammit I gtg
will you guys be in in half an hour? maybe more?)
(Yeah, I should be. :)
(I should be, too.)
(back! sorry)
"Devon, Layla, hey," Sebastian responded, a little breathless. His cheeks flushed when he took in Devon, but he ducked his head and opened the door further so that she could step in. "Uh, welcome, I guess."
(Welcome back! :D)
"Thanks, Seb," Devon said softly as she stepped inside. She glanced around with a small smile before turning back to Sebastian. "You have a nice place… Mind if I set Layla down?"
:D thanks lol)
"Not at all," he answered, though it was partially an answer to the first comment as well. Sebastian bit his tongue, trying not to drown in the sudden wave of shame that came over him.
Devon did so, and the little girl immediately took off toward the couch. She climbed up onto it and played with the stuffed animal she had brought.
"I do like your apartment," Devon assured Sebastian gently, giving him a small smile after making sure Layla wasn't getting herself into trouble.
Sebastian raised his eyebrows and gave a lift of both shoulders. "I'm glad. You'll have to tell me your secret, though, because whatever you see, I don't." He winced slightly at the poor attempt of a joke, clicking his tongue and gesturing to the kitchen. "I made fruit salad, if you two want some?"
"Oh, that sounds great! I'm sure Layla would love some, too," Devon said with a grin before she called the little girl over. Layla toddled over and immediately hugged Sebastian's legs, smiling up at him.
"Awe.." Chuckling, he swept the toddler up into his arms. "Hey, you. I hope you like raspberries." He started off towards the cramped kitchen, anxious energy practically flowing off of him in waves as he nudged two bowls and the 'salad' towards Devon.
"We'll see how she likes them. I haven't tried giving them to her yet," Devon stated as she spooned some of the fruit into the bowls that were provided for her.
Sebastian nodded, swallowing as his eyes darted around the dingy interior of the place. "Let's hope for the best."
Devon glanced up at him, noticing how he seemed almost… uncomfortable with her there. She reached over and set her hand on his comfortingly. "Sebastian… I'm not going to judge you by how your apartment is. Okay?"
