Sebastian's already prominent blush deepened. "Thanks, Devon. You're– You're my only friend, I think." He gave a wry chuckle.
Sebastian's already prominent blush deepened. "Thanks, Devon. You're– You're my only friend, I think." He gave a wry chuckle.
"Well… I'm glad I get that prestigious position," Devon said softly, rubbing at her arm as she smiled at him softly. She jumped at a sudden knock on the door and glanced over. "That's probably more guests. I, um… I should probably go greet them…"
"Y-Yeah, go ahead. Here, take Layla," He stood, scooping Layla up and handing her off to his mother.
Devon smiled at him as she carefully took her daughter. "Thanks. You can sit wherever you'd like or stand wherever you'd like. Basically, just do whatever until cake and gifts," she chuckled before starting for the door.
"Thanks," he called after, heart rate slowing as the distance between them grew.
Devon let the guests in, setting Layla down so the girl could run around and greet everyone in her bubbly, excited way. The adults laughed at the girl's enthusiasm, and the other kids joined her in playing some made up game.
Sebastian approached Devon and the other adults shyly, unsure what to do or say.
"Oh, Devon, who is this?" one of the women asked, smiling over at Sebastian.
Devon glanced over at him and gestures him to come farther forward. "Jenna, this is my friend Sebastian. Sebastian, this is Jenna. She works at the daycare I drop Layla off at."
“Hi, Jenna,” he greeted shyly, rubbing the nape of his neck.
Jenna nodded at him with a warm smile as she wrapped her arm around her husband, who stood beside her. Devon introduced the rest of the group to Sebastian before looking around for the kids.
"Oh, no… They're going to tear Layla's room apart again," Devon chuckled, shaking her head.
“Again?” Sebastian gave a questioning smile.
Devon sighed and shook her head, smiling as she remembered. "Every time Jenna brings her kids over, they and Layla always make a mess of her room. Toys get strewn all over the floor, diapers or pull-ups somehow end up in nooks and crannies, and the wipes get pulled out of the dispenser," she explained as her friends chuckled softly.
"Aw,.." he chuckled, suddenly feeling very self-conscious. "Am I– Am I the only one here who doesn't have a kid?"
(omg someone should totally mistake him for Devon's boyfriend)
(Oh, shoot! That's what I was going to do in my other post… Geez. Lol.)
"Well, you have Layla, don't you? I mean, if you're dating Devon, she's practically your daughter," Jenna questioned, giving him a curious look.
Devon blushed deeply, shaking her head. "Oh, we– We're not– Um… He's not…"
(lol)
Sebastian's face burned, flushing beet red. "No– We–" His mouth fumbled over his next words. "We're– Not together. Just- Just friends."
"Right. Exactly. Friends," Devon stuttered in agreement, giving a quick nod.
Jenna raised and eyebrow at them, humming disbelievingly. "I see… All right, then. You would be the only one without kids here, in that case."
Sebastian, still blushing furiously, gave a nod. His eyes flickered briefly to Devon, and for a split second, he wished he'd been able to give a different answer.
"Well…" Devon started off, her voice cracking a bit as she glanced around the room. She cleared he throat and tried again, "Well, since everyone is here, how about we all get drinks and go watch Layla open gifts, hm?"
The others nodded their agreement, chuckling a bit at the scene that had just unfolded. They walked into the kitchen, leaving Devon and Sebastian alone in the entryway.
Devon sighed and glanced at Sebastian, her face still holding a lingering blush. "I'm sorry about her… She doesn't always know what's appropriate to say…"
Sebastian averted his eyes, rubbing at the nape of his neck. "It's– It's fine," he stammered out, cheeks still burning from embarrassment. "I don't– I don't mind." He realized what he'd said a split second after he had blurted it out and quickly turned away before it hit Devon. "I'll go get a drink.."
"You don't mind… What don't you mind? People thinking… we're… Oh…" Devon said softly, a blush blooming on her cheeks again as she realized what he's meant. "Oh…"
Sebastian had disappeared into the kitchen long before she'd finished her sentence, heart pounding furiously. I'm so stupid.. he thought, disgusted with himself and his big mouth. God, she's going to hate me now..
He likes me… He likes me as more than a friend… Despite the fact that I have a daughter? He still likes me…
Devon couldn't seem to wrap her head around the newly found information. Did she like him like that? She couldn't, could she? It was still too soon… Wasn't it?
(sips tea
xD)
Sebastian, lost in thought, poured himself a cup of punch, wondering vaguely how much alcohol there was in it. I screwed up… I screwed up really bad. Oh god.
(snuggles into the 1000000 blankets I own
Devon would like to say that there is no alcohol. It is a child's party. She will not allow alcohol to be consumed during said party.)
She definitely liked him, she knew that much. But just how much did she like him? She trusted him more than she did almost anyone else… Maybe… It was time to give this another try? It had been over three years ago since she'd actually dated anyone…
Taking a deep breath, she ran a ha d through her hair and stepped into the kitchen to join the others. She picked up her glass of punch and took a sip, subtly (or so she hoped) glancing over at Sebastian.
Even if she did decide that she was ready, how would she let him know that? There wasn't really any way to…
Oh, that idea could work…
(lmao
lol thanks sorry)
Sebastian could feel Devon's eyes on him but refused to look at her, no matter how strong the urge to approach her was. He took another sip of his drink, cheeks burning with shame.
