(Yeah. That's fine!)
(Yeah. That's fine!)
(sorry)
Neo followed after Nolan but stoped when he heard what Alice said. "If that is so, then I thank you. On behalf of both me and Nolan." He said, looking over his shoulder.
Alice nods to Neo. "You're welcome."
And in a swirl of silk and lavender, she strides away.
Nolan scowled at her, leaning against Neo to feel some kind of comfort in all of this.
"And where are you going?" He called after her.
Alice pauses.
"To pretend like I'm concerned about my Lady's death, of course!" she calls back.
Nolan chuckled, putting an arm around Neo as he traced his jawline. "Well, mi amor… shall we go cause a panic?"
"I see no reason not to." Neo said whilst putting his arm around Nolan's shoulders and giving him a squeeze.
When Saraphina awoke several hours later, she was scared. That was normal, though. She was always scared when she awoke.
What wasn’t normal was how quickly the fear passed, or the heat of a body behind her. She tensed at first, before the previous night’s events came flooding back. Grief flooded her veins like a heavy weight. She settled back into Will’s arms and watched his chest rise and fall with the rather of sleep. She turned her thoughts over in her head until she could stand it no more. Feeling she would go insane if she stayed still a moment longer, she kissed Will’s cheek and pushed his hair out of his eyes. Rising from the bed softly, she donned a flimsy white nightdress, and began to scribble out a note for William. Her hands shook as she wrote.
“My love…” it began.
(Ooo, do I sense a tragedy about to unfold?)
(😏 maybeeeeee, I’m rolling with the flow, it’s up to ari what the note says)
(Laughs Fair e-nough!)
(Hehe)
(oooh…)
William awoke sometime later, the bed empty and the room barely lit with sunshine, it must be upcoming dawn.
He noticed a note and picked it up, it must be from Sara.
"my love…" it read as the introduction at the top of the paper.
"I have decided there is no reason for me to hurt you with my love, I do truly love you, as you do me.
But i'm afraid if we keep this on any longer, i'm terribly sorry, you have no idea how much it pains me to do this" it read.
William felt a singular tear fall down his cheek, he quickly wiped it away, leaving a red spot where it had been.
(Ooh… damn…)
Alice wandered the castle 'til morning came, unable to sleep. She'd seen Seraphina leave, but had left her alone; no reason to confront her about it. Yet. But she also wanted to talk to William, so she wandered the castle; she eventually found him, tears falling down his face. Wordlessly, she sat next to him, waiting.
Sara sunk to the floor in the outer corridor. She comforted herself by knowing she had done what was necessary.
William would be safe.
Somebody dangerous was on the loose. The duchess' death had not been an accident, of this Saraphina could be sure. And Saraphina would be next.
And she was engaged to the person with enough power to protect him. She rose to her feet and headed towards Nolan's room.
Nolan sighed, lying on his back whilst he looked up at the decorated ceiling, absentmindedly admiring the intricacies.
He heard footsteps down the hall, every step making his stomach churn, making his anxieties grow…
He sat up, pretending to have been reading as he cleared his throat and wiped the fear from his eyes, looking pessimistic as usual
Alice, hearing footsteps, decides to leave William to his own devices, knowing her presence probably wasn't welcome. She sees Sara walking down the hall, and decides to follow, assuming the simple guise of a ghost; it was easy for her to do so, what with how pale she was and the way she walked.
She eventually reaches what she assumes to be Nolan's room.
Feeling followed, Sara kept glancing over her back. She shook off the thought, dismissing herself as paranoid.
Her entire body shivered and she knocked at Nolan's door.
Alice knew she would be pretty much invisible. Waiting, she watched the door and Sara. I wonder what she's worried about. Hopefully not about her own death. I couldn't get away with that, even if I wanted to.
Nolan jumped, wincing at the sharp pain that followed as he opened his door slightly.
"Saraphina? Are you alright?"
Sara's eyes were cold and she knew it. She couldn't tell Nolan everything but she could tell him something. "No. Can I come in?"
Nolan blushed, feeling inadequate as he opened the door wide, letting her in while he glanced around the outside hall. Once he determined there was no one else, he closed it, facing her. "I'm so terribly sorry about this whole ordeal…. I know how close you were."
Alice quickly slipped through the door before it closed, shaking off her guise.
"I know what you're here to talk to Nolan about, Lady Saraphina." she smirks.
Sara gasped and tried to steel herself against the bitterness sweeping through her veins. She slid a hand towards Nolan and grasped his wrist, pulling him behind her. She may hate him, but no innocents would die in her court.
Her court.
The full truth of her inheritance hit her, and she grasped at the air within her lungs, unwilling to exhale, unwilling to allow it to escape. She narrows her eyes at Alice, her oldest friend. Could it be…?
"You."
The word escapes as a hiss, an accusation. It's with a start that Sara realizes that's how she meant it.
