"It changes depending on what specific time it is. You don't have to guess from the sun or whatever you're used to." Lumi got to his feet and stretched. "Do you know numbers?"
"It changes depending on what specific time it is. You don't have to guess from the sun or whatever you're used to." Lumi got to his feet and stretched. "Do you know numbers?"
Edmund sadly shook his head, looking back at the floor before his attention brought him back to the clock. ''mayhaps.. you show me what 9 or 10 is?"
"Uhhhβ¦" Lumi looked around and fetched a little notepad to draw a nine and a ten on. "There you go. The clock should look roughly like that when I get back." They drew one through eight as well. "These are the numbers leading up to nine and ten in order. It'll look like these before it looks like nine or ten."
Edmund nodded slowly, staring intently at the markings and tracing each character. "I seeβ¦" He gave Lumi a soft smile, crossing his legs as he set the notepad on his lap. "Thank you, my Lo- Lumi."
Lumi nodded and headed to their room to change into darker clothes. "Alright, well⦠I gotta head out now. See you later." He waved as he headed out the door to go to work.
Edmund waved, feeling slightly saddened as the only friend he had left him alone. He looked around the room, wondering what on earth he could do to please Lumiβ¦
Lumi was gone for a while, but he eventually returned roughly around the time he said he would. They looked pretty exhausted and beat up, and they looked around to see what Edmund had done.
Edmund had deliberately scrubbed each floor, every crook, every surface, dusting each item of furniture.
He didn't dare venture into Lumi's room though. Heavens no. What a disgrace to Lumi to do that.
So, a little proud, edmund stood, smiling as he pointed at the clock and gestured toβ¦. the rat. cooking on the stove.
"Lumi! You hath returned! I waited!" He said gleely, then started tending to the rat. "I caught dinner as well."
Lumi was surprised at how clean the apartment was, but not displeased. After all, they didn't do much deep cleaning. His expression changed a bit when he saw an entire rat on his stove. "Uh⦠thanks? I appreciate the cleaning, but most of the rats around here have a ton of diseases, so⦠I really wouldn't recommend eating them?"
Edmund lowered his head, turning the rat over the flames. "Oh, well, you do not have to worry about it! I washed him well! I saw no bugs in his skin!" He grinned, then pointed to the stove. "I was cleaning this contraption, whilst I bumped it, and flames came out!! It is incredible!" He beamed, looking around the rest of the kitchen with awe
Lumi sighed softly. "That 'contraption' is called an oven, and you typically cook stuff inside of it. Or use a pan if you're using the stovetop. But besides, the rats around here have all ingested drugs and have diseases on the inside that you can't really clean or. I really advise against trying to eat one. I appreciate the thought, but you'll probably get sick from eating that."
Edmund sighed and nodded slowly, taking the animal off the heat and taking one last look at it, before tossing it outside.
"Of course, sir Lumi. Of course. B-but, do we have any sustenance for this evening?" He asked timidly.
"Pretty sure I have some leftover pizza in the fridge. It's at least marginally safer." Lumi shrugged and pulled a couple of slices out of the fridge to toss into the microwave. "You'll probably like pizza. It's good."
Edmunds sighed with relief with the fact he would be able to eat. "Piβ¦sah." Edmund repeated, covering his ears when the microwave started. "What is it doing??" He whimpered, backing away from the contraption
"It's heating up the pizza for us so we don't have to eat it cold." The microwave soon stopped and Lumi pulled out the plate, handing one slice of pizza to Edmund while they ate the other one. "Here. Give it a go."
Edmund took it, mouth watering already at the smell that came from the slice. He closed his eyes as he took a small bite, then hungrily finished off the rest, grinning excitedly. "Thish ish sho good!" He said, mouth half full
"See? Much better than a diseased rat. Much less likely to kill you." Lumi finished his own slice and dumped the plate in the sink to deal with later. "We've got better food nowadays since we can cook things more effectively. There's all sorts of restaurants with fancy food that I can't afford."
Edmund nodded, following suit and placing the place amongst the others in the sink. "Rest are onts?" He repeated, tilting his head slightly. "And you cannot afford these? How so?"
"Uh⦠I can't afford them because they cost a lot of money to go to, and I'm poor. I don't have very much money." Lumi explained, heading over to the couch to relax.
Edmund lowered his head. "Ohβ¦" He muttered, clearing his throat as he went to sit by Lumi once more. "My family was also poor. They didn't fancy me, being the youngest, and so I would oft go without meals so my father and mother and brothers and sisters could have more ." He said sadly, staring down at the texture of the floor, studying it. "So I know how that must feel."
Lumi shrugged a bit and yawned, curling up on the couch. "Well, I'm pretty used to it by now. I'm better off than I used to be." They sighed softly. "I was homeless for a few years, actually, and just did what I could to get by to the next day. Even though I was just a kid."
Edmund gave a sorrowful look as he stared at Lumi, gently reaching out his hand and putting it on their shoulder. "I am truly sorry. You didn't deserve that." He said quietly, then quickly pulled his hand away, ashamed
Lumi shrugged again. "Whatever⦠it's fine. I'm over it now. And it was partially my fault, since I was such a nuisance to my foster homes that they didn't want me anymore. So, I ran away to live on my own."
Edmund chuckled slightly. "I do not think you are a nuisance. You did save meβ¦" He trailed off, a smile brushing his lips. "And I am forever in your debt."
"I didn't really do much⦠I'm just a decent human being. For the most part." Lumi yawned and curled up on the couch a bit as they turned on the TV. "You're welcome though, I guess."
