The soldier walks back to Resh and the wolf. “Locals found your crime scene. Come on, let’s just walk around.” They gesture for Resh to follow, and move back to go down a nearby street.

They avoided the locals, and continued searching for Teth, Tsadi, and Daphne. They picked up the trail they left, and the wolf was helping Resh and the soldier find them. They were close.

The soldier looks over at Resh again. “Doing any better?”

Resh glances at the soldier and nods. “Yeah, I’m fine.” Please shut up about it- His limp is just as noticeable as before, but he seems to be in less pain. Or he’s just masking it really well.

The soldier stares at him for a moment. “If you say so.”

The wolf lifts her head up, ears moving like she’s trying to pinpoint a sound. She looks back at Resh and the soldier and then speeds up pace.

The soldier follows along with the two of them. “Really didn’t think this was how my day was going to go.”

The wolf follows the sounds she was hearing. It follows along with the footprints they’re following, so it must be the others.

The soldier chuckles. “I guess you’re right. Not every day three strangers attack the Crown Prince and kidnap the Queen, let alone one of the soldiers committing treason to help.” They shrug.

Resh rolls his eyes at the soldier and crosses his arms. “Well, when you put it like that, it sounds bad.” He pauses for a moment. “…Okay, maybe it is bad. But we had good intentions-“

The soldier waves him off. “It was for the best. Cyrus… no one particularly enjoys his presence. Besides the snakes in the palace who followed his mother’s ideals.” They pause, thinking. “What I’m trying to say is if you didn’t intervene, things would only end up worse.”

Resh huffs slightly. “Sounds like hell. I can’t believe there are people who actually agree with that rodent…” He shakes his head. “I don’t know much about monarchies, but what I do know is that they almost always end badly… at least, that’s the case where I’m from.”

Resh shrugs. “There used to be a monarchy in my world, a long time ago. That one ended in the corruption of an entire realm, which spread to another realm, which almost spread to a few more… so I might be a little biased now.” He pulls out a knife and starts fidgeting with it. “I wasn’t even alive back then, but everyone knows the story. The Eye of Eden’s very existence makes it a little hard to forget the fall of our kingdom. It used to be a paradise.” Damn it, I’m rambling again. He clears his throat. “…Anyway-“

The soldier looks at him with either bewilderment or disbelief, it’s hard to tell with their mask. “That sounds like… it sounds like the tale of the ancestors.” And he said “our kingdom”… what?

They round a corner and enter the alleyway with Teth, Daphne, and (I’m assuming,) Tsadi. The soldier moves a bit behind Resh so they don’t look too imposing. Not that they looked extremely threatening, anyway. The wolf walks over to Daphne, sniffing at her curiously before looking at her.
