Serna ran her fingers through Nix's hair gently, giving a soft hum. Zachary looked at Cas when he stirred, gently rubbing his back.
Serna ran her fingers through Nix's hair gently, giving a soft hum. Zachary looked at Cas when he stirred, gently rubbing his back.
Nix relaxed into Serna's touch and eventually drifted off to sleep. Cas woke up soon after and yawned.
Serna looked up when Cas woke up.
"How are you doing, sugar?" She asked. Zachary gently kissed Cas's cheek, nuzzling him a bit.
"Mm… a little better, I guess. I'm just really worried about Nix, you know? I hope he's not too upset with us for force feeding him…"
Serna nodded.
"I hope so too… Still," she said softly, "If we hadn't, do you think he would have told us he was sick? If the fever had been left to it's own much longer, things could have been much, much worse…"
"I guess so… but he seemed so upset." Cas sighed, huddling a bit closer to Zachary. "I wish there was a better way…"
Zachary rubbed Cas's back gently, kissing his head.
"I know," Serna said gently. "It… I hated myself a bit when we found out why he didn't want to eat."
Cas nodded a bit. "I wish he would've just told us to begin with. We never would've tried to force him to eat if we knew why he wasn't eating."
"Yes, I have to agree. Still, his fever is going down now, and he's feeling better. That's what counts, in the end…" Serna sighed gently. Zachary nuzzled Cas a bit, sad to see him like this.
"Yeah… we'll have to get him his vaccines as soon as possible so this doesn't happen again. Where can we get those?" He asked, huddling closer to Zachary.
"I can get them for him. I… It's part of my job." Serna smiled weakly. She hated her job. Even Zachary looked away a moment.
"Uh… okay." Cas replied, clearly confused. He wasn't quite reading the situation. "We shouldn't give them to him all at once, though… it's probably not good for him, and he would not tolerate it at all."
"Yes, we'll have to space them out. We can manage, though." She smiled slightly. Zachary looked back, holding Cas a bit closer.
Cas nodded a bit and rested his head on Zachary's shoulder. "He's never been sick like this before… I'm worried about him."
"Don't forget this is the first time he been sick as a person. He'll be fine…" Zachary put his hand on Cas's head, humming faintly.
"I know, I know… he seems stressed, though. I don't like seeing him so stressed." Cas sighed and buried his face in Zachary's chest.
"Neither do I, especially after what he went through." Zachary kissed Cas lightly, holding him close. Serna shifted a bit, nose head still in her lap.
"Y-Yeah… I've been where he is, and that's why I'm so worried about him. I went through hell back then."
Serna nodded a bit.
"I heard… And it's horrible, what happened to both of you." She sighed a bit. That obviously wasn't going to help anything, she knew.
Cas nodded weakly and clung more tightly to Zachary. "It's… it's hard, and I know it's hard for him too. He hardly knows what's happening to begin with."
Zachary held Cas close, humming gently and nuzzling against him. He kissed Cas's forehead lightly.
"Yes…" Serna looked down at Nix in her lap.
"Mm… I love you…" Cas murmured softly to Zachary. "Um… I really, really love you. I feel safe around you and that's really important to me."
Zachary blushed slightly. He held Cas closer.
"I love you," he said softly in reply. What else could he say? Literally, he was unable to express just how much knowing he helped Cas like this meant to him.
Cas smiled softly and buried his face in Zachary's shoulder. "Like, you're the only guy I've been with that I truly feel safe around…"
Zachary leaned his head on Cas's, smiling. He kissed Cas's head gently, holding him close.
