By now, everyone was awake and preparing. The queen was already walking around, greeting the oldest representatives and checking on the preparations.
At this moment, Rowena was in her sitting room, speaking with one of the representatives from the Dark Forest District, an owl avian like Kyro.
She regarded him when he entered, the representative cut off what he had been saying.
“I’m sorry, Kyro,” she said gently, but her eyes were firm and almost cold. “But as you can see, I have my hands quite full. Why don’t you have one of the maids do it?”
Meanwhile, Pandi and Ace were in their rooms, getting ready. There would be a reception party soon, meant for socializing and mingling with avians from all over the kingdom, establishing or reinforcing relationships. They dressed in their best formal wear, and preened each other’s feathers. Pandi was more excited than Ace was, mostly because he was more introverted and had attended these events for longer than Pandi had.
Kyro nodded and went to go find an open maid. He’d found one close by to pandi, not having noticed the boy there. His feathers were a bit ruffled from stress and knowledge that he had to impress quite a few avains to help the queen.
The maid, after a bit of confusion, obliged to style Kyro's hair. After a few minutes, Pandi and Ace emerged from their room, the former chattering excitedly about the party. Spotting Kyro, he immediately walked over to him, smiling wide.
"Hello! Uh…" they realized he had never introduced himself. "Mr. Escort! How are you? Um, thanks again for guiding us. Me and my friend here rested well. Will we see you at the party?"
" im actually going that way," h said as the maid finished and he walked to pandi " im kyro, by the way.." he said and flustered a bit. kyros snowy blue eyes watched pandis and gave him a warm look.
They gasped with excitement. "Oh, wonderful! Would you want to walk with us, Kyro?"
Behind him, Ace came up. "Um, Pandi, do you know–?"
"Are you okay with him coming with us, Ace?" he asked, whipping around to face him.
"Uh, that's not what I was going to…" he sighed. "Yeah, it's fine."
kyro nodded, he gave a soft smile and looked to the other avain " what do you need?" he asked and tilted his head.
Ace looked up. “Oh, no, I’m just surprised Pandi here doesn’t know who you are.”
Pandi looked at him. “What do you mean? He’s Kyro, the one who escorted us here.”
Shaking his head, Ace chuckled. “You mean, you haven’t seen him around in previous meetings?”
“No??” They turned back to Kyro. “Do you know what he’s talking about?”
Kyro chuckled, leaving the story telling to ace “ go ahead, I’m tired of telling that story.” He said softly. Kyro smiled at pandi, knowing exactly how this would go once he was told he was second in line to the throne.
Ace looked a bit uncomfortable now. “Um, I’ll tell you later, Pandi,” he said, then lowered his voice. “When we’re alone.”
Pandi blinked. “Uh, okay?” He turned to Kyro. “Um… you don’t have, like… a criminal record, do you?”
“ no, no! “ he said and put his hands up. He sighed and lowered his head “ you really wanna know? “ he paused a second before closing his wings to his back “ I'm a living legend. There are no snow owl species that hasn't told the queen of their newborn child to have her blessing, but in the time I would have been born or even thought about, the Queen had no children or eggs brought to her. So when I showed up in a basket with no info but my name on a note she took me in. Now I stand as second in line. The General for the army has always been like a father to me and the queen a mother. That's just how it's always been. I don't wear the crown I was given for the simple fact of I don't want people to know. “ he explained
( Ii was tryna add prompt of he's the foundling child. Like his parents couldn't be found.)
(Ok. That just confused me)
Pandi listened with rapt attention. Once Kyro had finished, they glanced to the side, wings fluttering as he thought. “Oh.” He looked up. “Oh! I’ve heard of you!” Laughing a little at himself, he continued, “Not sure how didn’t realize it. Maybe it is the absence of the crown.” They shrugged. “I think I have seen you before, but I always assumed you were just a musician and performer. But that’s cool! Should I, uh… should I bow?”
Ace watched this unfold, looking both uncomfortable and amused.
" n..no. please don't.." he said awkwardly. Kyro sighed and pulled the crown out his pocket. He placed it on his head. " Better?"
“Okay then,” they said, rubbing his neck and trying to laugh it off. Studying Kyro for a moment, he replied, “It looks pretty on you, but I mean, uh, you don’t have to wear it if you don’t want to.”
Kyro flushed at the cheek. " Th.. thanks and I think I'll keep it on this time.." he said softly and smiled as they walked into the Galla. He watched as the party blossomed, sighing half annoyed
At the moment, the room was filled with representatives and servants, milling about and talking. There was no food yet, and the royal family was noticeably absent. Ace tapped Pandi on the shoulder.
“Come on, let’s find Cecile and Alma,” he said, referring to the other representatives from their district. Pandi turned to Kyro and waved in farewell. “Nice to properly meet you!”
He followed after Ace, disappearing into the crowd.
Kyro waved, feeling his solitary senses kicking in. Every sound was so !u h louder, making his wings puff. Where was his company when he needed it..
The Blue River representatives met up, only to split up again to socialize. Friends meeting up with friends not seen in a while, catching up on news, and the like. Ace and Cecile would get overwhelmed after a while, and tag onto Pandi or Alma.
Finally, sharp eagle screeches were heard. “Enter Her Majesty, Queen Rowena of Alevid!” a guard called. The queen emerged through the entrance, her patterned wings set elegantly behind her, a crown of feathers, leaves, jewels, and flowers around her head.
“His Highness, Prince David!”
Her brother followed behind her, his eyes bright, searching the crowd excitedly. He was dressed in green, his wings quivering slightly behind him.
“His Highness, Prince Edward!”
The youngest brother followed, slow but composed. Everyone knew he was more reserved than even Rowen was, and usually did not care for events like this. His wings were folded close against his back.
The three siblings stood side by side, allowing for a moment of silence as those the crowd bowed and stood. Then Rowena addressed them.
“Thank you all for coming. We are here once again to discuss matters of the state, and the districts that make up its body. However, I understand that some of you had late nights and long journeys in coming here, so please eat your fill and partake in merriment, and later we shall get into discussion. Enjoy yourselves!”
From other entrances, servants came with plates upon plates of food. Seeds, nuts, and fruit dusted with spices or coated in sauces or honey. Meats of all kind; insects and mice and rabbits and fish, roasted, grilled, or fried. Cups of water and flower nectar were passed around. Everyone sat and began to dine.
Kyro sat near the queen, enjoying his usual mouse and a few berries. He sighed and lowered his head. He hated being so bunged up, preferring solitude and tranquility over the loud party. Though he couldn't stop thinking about the avain who gave him the courage to wear his crown.
Pandi sat with the others from his district, though sometimes he would speak to a black harrier avian whom they met the previous year. She was fun to talk to and had a nice sense of humor, so Pandi got along with her well. Occasionally their eyes subconsciously searched for Kyro as they ate their favorite meal, fish.
Meanwhile, the queen ate a meal of a mouse and a rabbit, also feeling a little overwhelmed. She didn’t not speak much, save for with her brothers. David was a bit loud, but he was always like that. Rowena was more looking forward to the one on one conversations that she would hold later.
" hey.. queen.. have you seen a osprey named pandi? I can't find him.." he asked the queen with after coming up to her " I.. I'm done eating to I figured I'd mengal "
