“You took Mandarin?” Teya was genuinely surprised, and impressed.
“You took Mandarin?” Teya was genuinely surprised, and impressed.
"Yea…" Yesim answered.
“How much do you remember?”
"Not much, but I didn't forget everything."
“That’s cool, though. No one learns Mandarin. You’re doing better than me.”
"Well, it was an option at our school, and I know some Spanish too."
“Yeah, I took Spanish for several years. I was actually put in Spanish 2 my freshman year.”
"Everyone is put in Spanish 2 if they don't completely fail, right?"
“Well, geez, I dunno. Most people from my middle school didn’t go into 2. They didn’t take the placement test. But I did. And they put me in 2. And then I took 3, and then I stopped because I wanted to take other classes and I had all my credits.”
Yesim nodded in understanding. "Oh, okay then. That makes sense."
“Did you ever do any clubs or sports?”
"Yea. I actually did a lot in high-school."
“I didn’t do much in high school. I did stuff in middle school, but then I just…didn’t,” Teya got to wondering how long they had been walking, and how much longer they would be walking. Not that she was bored; just curious.
Yesim quickly came to a stop when her house appeared. "Cool, aaand we're here."
“Oh, right,” Teya lingered. “You have a nice place,” she commented.
"Oh, thanks." Yesim replied. "Is your home far from here or no?"
“Um, no. No. I’ll be fine,” she said. “I’ll…talk to you later, yeah?”
"Right-yea-um-sure." She replied. Right, yea, sure? What is wrong with you?
Teya smiled, waving goodbye and slowly backing away.
Yesim smiled back, also waving goodbye.
Finally, Teya turned and walked on. She hadn’t told Yesim, but her house was in the opposite direction. She wanted to keep it a secret, so she waited until Yesim was inside before she began walking back towards her house.
Yesim shut the door and sighed before flopping down on the bed, rethinking over what just happened. "Is this even real?"
“Oh my god, you awkward nightmare. This is what? Your 1,000 first date and you’re a complete mess!” Teya whispered to herself.
Yesim's face turned red. "God, I hate myself."
Teya turned the corner, realizing that it was dark and she was alone. “I shouldn’t have tried to cover up the direction I was really headed…” she said to herself.
