She placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, testing his reaction.

He seems to stiffen more. If that was even possible. All he wanted was to be left alone. Maybe he’d get a chance this time…

Ariella didn't move her hand. She didn't lift it off but she didn't attempt to hold him anymore. "Please Amyntas, talk to me."

Amyntas ignores her, shuddering.

Ariella slowly began to rub his back.

Amyntas whimpers, “Leave me alone…”

"No, I'm not. Because if I leave you alone you're going to break completely. And I'm not going to let you die. Not on my watch."

Amyntas whimpers, “Why not…”

"Because you can't. I won't let you. Think of the people you'll hurt if you give up. Your mother, your father, your people. Me. You can't die. You can't."

Amyntas whines, “All I gotta do is push everyone away. Break their hearts and boom…problem solved…”

"It'll only make things worse. If you let us in, let us love you, it will get so much better. Let us support you. Let us raise you up."

He shakes his head, “I’m done trying…it hurts to try…it physically hurts…”

"Let me help you. Let me heal you. I can help if you let me." Ariella wasn't going to give up on him.

Amyntas whimpers, “Don’t waste your energy…”

"I'm going to anyways." Ariella was stubborn

Amyntas gives up, too tired to bother.

Ariella slowly pulled him into her arms, hugging him.

Amyntas pulls away, keeping his face hidden. Already he was distancing himself again.

Ariella didn't let him get far. Hide his face if he wanted to but she was hugging him whether he liked it or not.

Amyntas shudders, pushing her away. “Let go…”

"No. I'm not letting you push me away."

Amyntas whines, still pushing at her. “Go away…”

"No. I'm not leaving. I'm more stubborn than you are."

Amyntas sighs, then turns his back to her.

Ariella shook her head and curled into his back.
