Ilya laughed, leaning down to kiss him softly. He scooted down on the bed until Nathaniel could reach easily. "Sorry, I forgot you were three-foot nothing."
Ilya laughed, leaning down to kiss him softly. He scooted down on the bed until Nathaniel could reach easily. "Sorry, I forgot you were three-foot nothing."
Nathaniel huffed, but kissed Ilya anyways. "I'm five foot four…"
"Oh my god, I'm half a foot taller than you!" Ilya pecked him on the cheek. "That's just precious. No wonder you're so easy to cuddle."
Nathaniel huffed again and looked away, his blush steadily returning. He seemed to be pouting a bit.
Ilya kissed him gently, pulling away to peck him on the cheek. "What's got you so pouty, Nathaniel?"
"I'm not that short…" Nathaniel said quietly, blushing harder. "R-Right?"
"I mean, you are kind of small." Ilya shrugged, pulling Nathaniel a little closer. "That doesn't have to be a bad thing, though."
Nathaniel sighed and lay his head on Ilya's shoulder. "I can… I can still fight people, though…"
Ilya nodded, reaching up to scratch the back of his head gently. "Of course you can! Just because you're short doesn't mean you're helpless."
Nathaniel relaxed at Ilya's touch. "I guess so… I just feel weak sometimes."
"Well, you're not!" Ilya pulled him closer. "It takes strength to go through the things you have and still come out ready to fight."
"I-I know, but still…" Nathaniel lay his head on Ilya's shoulder, hugging him.
Ilya hugged him back, running a hand up and down Nathaniel's back. "I promise you're stronger than you think. You just need to learn how to use that strength."
"Mm…" Nathaniel yawned and nuzzled into Ilya's shoulder, getting himself more comfortable.
Ilya pulled him closer and yanked a blanket over them so Nathaniel wouldn't get cold. "Sleepy?"
"Always… I'm happy to stay up with you, though." Nathaniel pulled away so he could kiss Ilya.
Ilya smiled softly and leaned into the kiss. "Don't worry about it."
"What time is it, anyways?" Nathaniel gently pressed his forehead against Ilya's, keeping his eyes closed.
Ilya hummed, peeking at a clock on the wall. "Oh, about 9. Maybe 10, time works strangely around here sometimes."
"Mm…" Nathaniel moved his head back to Ilya's shoulder. "Is there anything else you want to do today, love?"
Ilya flushed at the nickname, pressing closer to Nathaniel and shaking his head. "Not really. I mean, I'll probably find something to do while you're sleeping but… I think I'm good for now."
Nathaniel nodded and soon fell silent. Just a quick look at him showed that he'd fallen asleep again.
Ilya laughed and kissed him on the forehead, slipping out of bed a few hours later when he got too restless to lay down. There wasn't much to do, so he stumbled out into the garden, watching the stars as he meandered through the familiar paths. His good mood fell apart when he ran into the cauldron, muffling a scream as the iron burnt his skin.
Nathaniel woke up at the sound of dune noise he couldn't identify from outside. He got up and went out, managing to make out Ilya's silhouette in the darkness. "Ilya? You okay?"
Ilya scurried away from the iron, clamping a hand over his side and wincing as he felt blood start sliding down his hip. "Fuck, y-yeah. I'm fine." His voice was watery, on the edge of tears. "I just… I just had a little accident, Honey. I'll be inside in a… a minute."
