I really want more stories where a main character doesn't stay perfectly unharmed until the Final BattleTM, but gets gradually beaten up during the story.

Well…Magnus Chase dies. Multiple times. In all three books. His least favorite was when his crush cut his head off with a garrote wire.

Yeah, but I mean injuries with serious consequences that can't be just healed right away. Also, Alex cutting off their crush's head with a garrote wire was Iconic.

QUALITY FEMALE/FEMALE, MALE/MALE, AND FEMALE/MALE FRIENDSHIPS!!!!
Especially male/male, I feel like so many are either not important to the story or not very good. It may just be because I usually read books with female protagonists, but I've noticed a lack of male/male friendships.

Also size differences in friendships? Like the tall skinny friend and the short chubby friend? Or the short and slim/physically weak friend and the tall ripped friend? That's the stuff right there!

as a short person I fully endorse this

But also the ones that are similar, but not quite equals, so they can wrestle around and have a friendly rivalry going at all times.

I'd love to see a gritty retelling of The Little Mermaid where she kills the prince to stay on land and maybe he haunts her or something?? Idk it sounds cool.

I've seen things about the original The Little Mermaid, I knew the story at one point but it's been years so I don't fully remember. (You might not know this, but I really like dark, creepy things as long as they're not spiders. Spiders need to burn.)

They are C R E E P Y!!!!!!!!!

I'd also love to see characters who interact with family members like second cousins or great-aunts/uncles. I guess that's more personal for me since I'm closer with my second cousin than with my first cousins, and I see my great uncle like every summer. I just feel like extended family gets ignored a lot.

I agree with all of this. One of the most important people in my life was my great grandmother, I saw her once a week and would talk to her all the time. One of my friends is closer to her great aunt than most of her aunts/uncles. Why don't people include family past siblings, parents, cousins, uncles/aunts, and grandparents?

Yeah. My grandparents all live pretty far away, and so do my cousins, but I have a second cousin only a half hour away! And a great-uncle only an hour away! Heck, the first family death I went through was my great aunt.

I'd really like to see more books with interesting formatting. I know that Daisy Jones and the Six just came out and it written in interviews, and I read a good middle grade book in December that was told through school essays, text messages, diary entries, and newpaper clippings.

The author of Crank, Glass, Identical, etc….. Some pretty messed up shit, but she writes in odd poetry form.
