So my character is going through some hard stuff, and he hasn’t eaten in about one and a half day. From a more medical point of view, should his body react by feeling nausea when he does eat, or does that only apply to when people haven’t eaten for a longer time? He has been going through some mentally hard stuff and he had a panic attack and have been super stressed, does that affect the body in ways that makes it more tired and in need of nutrition, causing him to feel nausea? He hasn’t done anything physically exhausting…
Does anyone know this kind of stuff?
So I asked my sister (she's a nurse in training) and here's the gist:
Not eating for 36 hours should generally be fine for healthy people. In your character's case (after the stress of a panic attack) they would probably need more nutrients afterwards than usual. There's no way to tell if they'll get nauseous or if they won't - it depends on the meal, on how much they eat and how fast and what exactly. Eating too much or too fast will make them ill. Basically they want a meal that has as many nutrients as possible in as little food as possible (fatty foods would also make them ill).
All the best with your writing!
I don't know about the medical side of things, but when I get panic attacks and don't eat, sometimes just the idea of eating makes me nauseated. It usually goes away after I eat though, protein helps a lot.
Lol. Until breakfast this morning I hadn't eaten in about 30 hours.when breakfast came I started to shovel the food. I felt like I might throw up for about five minutes.
Thanks for the help, all of you! It really helped!
