turns out it's called mental stimming, and brain glitches are normalish??

Wait there's a NAME FOR THAT!?!?

YEAH, cool right?!

So…. I'm not really sure if what I'm experiencing is a hyperfixation or not and was wondering if someone might have aswers?
So, I've done lots of research trying to find out if I get hyperfixated or not, but nothings really been useful, so…
Ok, so what happens is sometimes my brain will decide that a certain subject (usually a cartoon) is suddenly just the MOST EXCITING THING EVER. It happens on VERY varied degrees, so it can be anywhere from I haven't stopped thinking about it for the last 4 days and am losing sleep over this to This show is super cool, I can still think about other stuff but when I do think about it I get happy. But it always has the same exciting feeling attached to it, which is what's really throwing me off. I have special interests, and it's completely different from that, and I also have regular interests, so I know it's not that either. The only other thing I can think it would be is a hyperfixation, but I don't tend to sit there and research it for more than a couple hours, even the really intense ones. Does anyone know if these are hyperfixations? Or what they are if not that?

yeah, that sound like hyperfixation to me, especially the first example. basically a hyperfixation is when you focus so heavily on one thing for that it gets in the way of other things, such as sleep, eating, drinking, social activities, etc.

@Axel

I don't know if I have anything. I was never diagnosed with anything. Okay. Let me explain a few 'symptoms' I have.
I rock back and forth every day, even when not listening to music. I always get fixed on one certain thing, loving the absolute HELL out of it. I don't fall asleep easily. I listen to music to relieve stress. Oh, and my sense of smell is VERY sensitive.

@gay_corgi group

That sounds a lot like autism, maybe some other stuff too. Obviously I'm not like a doctor or anything, but yeah you might want to look into diagnosis and/or do some research on autism.

(btw, i'd like to talk to Axel (about his character that he wanted drawn), but since he doesn't have an @ i can't dm him. so yeah, hey Axel.)

Def a hyperfixation, Hyperfixations don't ALWAYS have to get in the way of sleep/food/hygiene either, but the part about being really happy when doing or interacting with the fixation and additionally if your other interests or hobbies while still enjoyable are less appealing than the fixation are a pretty good sign that you've got a fixation.

You can also have a fixation without it necessarily becoming a hyperfixation, hyperfixations def tend to hurt daily life and self care and make it hard to transition to other tasks. But fixations can just be your current most enjoyed hobby/interest that brings more satisfaction that other hobbies even when you want to interact with a different one. Fixations can also become hyperfixations.

Also there's such a thing as a special interest which I've learned for myself is like a fixation or hyperfixations that never fully dies and I keep kinda coming back to it every so often or it's just always in the background.

Lol, when you avoid all communal meals so you won’t have to feel the urge to tear out your nervous system and publicly hang the closest person to you haha… ha
