Personally, if someone said "Which Hogwarts house is the worst?" I would answer "Gryffindor"
I think all the houses have bad problems.
Ravenclaw (my house): Think they are smarter then everyone else, also kind of annoying as they are "so smart"
Hufflepuff: For some of them, the kindess could be a cover. Also always taken from granted
Slytherin: Voldemort was in this house
Gryffindor: Think they are the "best" and everyones favorite because they had Harry Potter.
I think Gryffindor is just the bad house because they are boastful, self-confident, and so talented at Quidditch. I feel so bad for Slytherin. They were earning some of their respect back, after they had produced Voldemort, and then Harry Potter comes along and basically screws them.
I don't think you are inherently correct on Ravenclaw. The only one we really get to see is Luna and she's the complete opposite, along with being arguably the best character.
We only have Cedric and Ernie to see inside of Hufflepuff and I think Cedric was the epitome of his house. He was ambitious, but always knew there were more important things than his victory. He was kind and he was fair. I think that is what Hufflepuff is about.
The Slytherins were shoved in the corner of badness and had an obviously biased representation. It's a real pity, and I align myself more and more with the "Slytherin pride" people as time goes by.
Self confidence and talent are both good things. Granted they (like all traits) have negative sides. Percy had an abundance of those two qualities. They are boastful yes, but so is Slytherin. And even the Hufflepuffs could be cruel when the thought their friend was being slighted.
The one thing that I hate in Harry Potter is in the Battle of Hogwarts, they put the Slytherins in the dungeon. What, so some children don't want to have to kill their parents possibly. Who says all Slytherins are bad? And Mcgonagall put all of them, 1st years to 7th years, in a cell because some of then are bad. That is blatantly racist and cruel, and because no teachers are in the dungeons, it's basically showing that the school doesn't care about a entire quarter of their population. But the worst part is that the other houses cheer about the Slytherins leaving. All three houses, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff, are somehow so heartless at that time that it made me ashamed of my own house. So I actually agree that all houses are bad at sometimes, I just feel like Slytherin was under-rated.
First. I thought they went through the Room of Requirement to Abe's place. Did I get that wrong?
Second. "That is blatantly racist and cruel" Um… Dude. You could make an argument about cruelty. But racism… C'mon dude. Don't throw around big words like that until you know what they mean. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh here, but it's when people start throwing out insults without reason that we get a country where saying the wrong thing on Twitter will get you death threats.
the school doesn't care about a entire quarter of their population Or they do. Because protective custody. Either the Slytherins would side with the Death Eaters making more problems for Hogwarts, or they would have to desert their parents. With could end in their murder. If they were in the dungeons, that was a favor to them.
The other houses can be cruel to Slytherin. But their rep merits it.
And yes they were under-rated.
Serverus was a good man!!!
No. He did a good thing. He was a bully who was cruel to young children. Not a good man.
I feel like a ton of people are like "I love Harry Potter! I'm such a Gryffindor!!" and then I'm like "Did you take the quiz?" "No. But Harry's in Gryffindor!!!"
I just feel like it's like Dauntless. People want to say that they're Gryffindors but a lot actually aren't. And I'm sure there's some legit Gryffindors out there, but most people I know are Slytherins, Hufflepuffs, and Ravenclaws.
YES It's because the people prefer to align themselves with what they think is the best, instead of acknowledging that they are not always what they want to be. I wanted to be Dauntless, but I realized that I would die there and was really an Amity even though I would rather be the cool fighters.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Percy should've died in the Battle of Hogwarts instead of the guy that died instead!
It wouldn't have hurt, so it would have been useless. Rowling said her books were about death, and she delivered perfectly.

Actually, Percy dying right after redeeming himself to his family and sacrificing himself for that character would've been much more hard hitting than killing off a beloved character for shock value.
It would feel more like a cop out in my opinion.

same. I wanted to be Erudite but I'd probably choose Amity just to be safe lol

I'm Candor, but I could be Erudite too.
Also, my personal opinion is that the traits associated with Gryffindor are the least important ones. You're brave. And chivalrous. And….daring? Idk I just think they're the most surface level traits. Just like Dauntless, if it didn't have Tris and Four in it and the 'cool factor', y'all would realize that Amity, Abnegation, Erudite, and Candor are actually the most important factions.
I think that you might be underestimating Gryffindors a bit actually… Gryffindors aren't just a bunch of bash and whack, reckless jocks. I think that courage and honor are really important because you need to be able to do things even though you are scared, and that's what courage is. Honor and integrity are both qualities of being chivalrous, and I think that they are really important to a person's character. And not like a fictional character, but having character. I don't think it's quite fair of you to make an assumption that Gryffindors are shallow.

Hey, not very cool. I am from Gryffindor, but you would do the same thing to defend your house, so please lay off.

i get that some gryffindors are
ACTUAL
gryffindors
but
we all could do fine without gryffindor
so many people would do fine in other houses
please don't kill me
You're missing the point. Gryffindors are based off traits that are very valuable.
I'm just annoyed with the trope where with divisions it's like "Smart!" "Kind!" "Evil!" "BRAAAAAAAAAAAVE!" and so many other traits are overlooked. Yes Gryffindor has important traits but imo they're not as important of traits as Hufflepuff, Slytherin, and Ravenclaw values, but that's just me.
Lol. So true. What are the values of Slytherins?
Leadership, ambition, a willingness to succeed, the desire to do better than you are currently doing and the iron will to carry it out.
I could use that right now.
