Anyone know any good books?
Anyone know any good books?
Daughters of Time, by Mary Hoffman: a collection of short stories about some of history's most remarkable
The Mara Dyer series, by Michelle Hodkin: an awesome mix of romance, fantasy and thriller
The Breadwinner, by Deborah Ellis: heartwarming. A girl's journey through the desert
Most Cassandra Clare books: The Mortal Instruments, or even The Infernal Devices
Counting by 7s, by Holly Goldberg Sloan: it's just adorable
The Path of Names, by Ari. B. Goelman: an incredibly underrated ghost story
Any genre in particular?
OMG SO: See You in the Cosmos is AMAZING, Lily and Dunkin by Donna Gephart is beautiful, The Lies We Tell Ourselves is so incredibly eye-opening (Robin Talley), and Kids of Appetite and Mosquitoland by David Arnold are just beyond words!
The Giver is my favorite book series by far. It's written by Lois Lowry. I wont spoil anything, but this is the best book series i've found in ages.
Lois Lowry*
Lois Lowry*.
dammit I took an L
Any genre in particular?
Not really
Okay so these are really good: The Sun is Also a Star and Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon (she's a really up-and-coming author with a movie made from the latter), Turtles All the Way Down by John Green and the School for Good and Evil series.
Charlie K Oh yeah, I got really into The School For Good and Evil series a few years ago.
Radio Silence is a good book for lovers of romance, comedy, adventure, and mystery. Good time killer with interesting characters and a wild plot.
Anyone know any good fantasy or mystery books?
Thx
If you’re lopking for mystery, Lockwood and Co. is a pretty good ghost-buster mystery type thing, except it’s done in a really clever, unique way. Not the kind of thing that’ll keep you up at night, but it.will give you chills. Also, for fantasy try Seraphina, which can is a sort of dragon thing.
The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale is amazing! Also, Pride and Prejudice is pretty good if you're okay with looking a lot of words up.
Do graphic novels/ comic books count? I don't read chapter books as often as I'd like to.
Graphic novels can be equally as good as novels, a good one to try if you’re lookong for sci fi/fantasy/dystopian is Nimona by Noelle Stevenson, I LOVED it.
Thanks! I have two suggestions (both of which are graphic novels):
"Seconds" by Bryan Lee O'Malley is pretty excellent, managing to both funny… and depressing.
"This One Summer" by Mariko Tamaki is also pretty excellent. I found the story somewhat nostalgic and very sad. Though, be warned; This one contains a lot of swearing.
A Dog's Journey by W. Bruce Cameron is really good, as well as The Birchbark House by Louise Erdrich. If you're looking for well-written children's fiction I'd recommend basically anything by Kate DiCamillo (e.g. Despereaux, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane), Princess Academy by Shannon Hale (which sounds much frillier than it is), Dragon Slippers by Jessica Day George (which I loved when I was younger and now re-read as a comfort read), Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede (also a comfort read), and if you're looking for something light and funny to read I'd go for Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians by Brandon Sanders which is absolutely ridiculous and wonderful. Another light funny read is the Hero's Guide series by Christopher Healy. The Giver by Lois Lowry is absolutely fantastic, as well as the sequels. (I think someone already mentioned that above?) I enjoyed The Midwife's Apprentice by Karen Cushman which is very short at a little over 100 pages. (Oops this ended up being quite long, apologies. Happy reading!)
(Princess Acadamy, Dragon Slippers, and The Tale of Despereaux are some of my favorites!!!)
Ummmm let's see, I'm in the middle of the Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater, and I like it a lot so far (it's like YA urban fantasy). There's also The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. I second The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare, but I'm not a big Mortal Instruments fan (that's just personal preference though- books 1-3 were solid, then it got weird, but I followed through). And if you haven't read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, you totally should. I'm not a huge sci-fi person, but I really enjoyed it.
Oh, I love Cassandra Clare, her books are great! I also highly suggest The Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garwin. I read a lot of fantasy and realistic fiction and sometimes sci-fi. I also highly suggest the Eragon series to anyone who'd stick with it. I read it a few years back and it was amazingly written! John Green is a great author and I love his books, I've read The Fault in Our Stars and Looking for Alaska. I'm on the last book of the Beyonders trilogy by Brandon Mull, it's a very good series. I've read so many good books, I could go on and on, but that'd probably get annoying!
I forgot about the Beyonders! I never got to finish that series! I couldn't find all of the books because my local library is the worst.
Oh, that's unfortunate, I'm not done but very close! How far did you get?
I can't remember. It's been a long time. I think I read the first and second books.
Also, anyone else ever read the Pendragon series? I almost forgot those books existed, but I was in love when I was reading them.
Thanks to everyone who replied to me. I have so many books I need to read now! Anyone need any suggestions?
I'll take suggestions!
Also to everyone who sees this… I need to see if I'm insane or something because I absolutely adore a series that everyone seems to have no idea about. The Queen's Thief series. If you've heard of Six of Crows, the author of that loves it, too. Maybe that little fact will convince you all to PLEASE READ IT AND LEMME KNOW IF IT'S ACTUALLY SUPER DUMB. (fyi, the first book is pretty good but the second and third ones are much better. You definitely need to read them in order, though)
Also has anyone else read the Howl's Moving Castle series? Also amazing (but the third was meh).
