could we please not fight over Rick Riordan and his “inaccurate” LGBTQ representation and/or “bad” characters thank you

I agree it's far from perfect but can we appreciate what we have, please?

Not to mention this thread is for appreciating our favourite authors. You don't have agree with everything that is being said, but please be respectful of other people's opinions. There are other threads where you can discuss this.

To get us back on track, my favourite author at the moment is Neal Shusterman. I've only read one and half of his series' but so far I'm loving it. His writing really makes you think and especially in the Unwind series it touches on some controversial subjects without it feeling too preachy. His writing is just so good and and engaging. Like, I'm not one to cry over fictional characters but I definitely came close while reading Scythe and Thunderhead. And all his characters I feel like are well written. I feel like he writes really good strong female characters which is something that a lot of female writers struggle with. Anyways, I could really go on forever but that covers most of the main points.

DJ MacHale is another one that I love. It's been a while since I've read one of his books but I just really appreciate the amount of action that goes on in his books. I feel like he's created some really unique worlds as well as some great characters, especially within the Pendragon series.

TUI. T. FREAKIN'. SUTHERLAND.

She has written the greatest series of books about dragons EVER! The writing is great, the characters are interesting, the dragons feel like actual creatures with their own distinct physiology, and the humans are little friends that no one can understand, but are kept as pets by some. She just started her second part of the series, READ WINGS OF FIRE IF YOU HAVEN'T!

@Mercury Beta Tester

James Patterson for his humor and range of books that he writes/publishes

Patterson has most of his books ghost written. Don't forget to give credit to the 'co authors'!

Stephen King is great with escapism and can make any situation seem terrifying.

Garth Nix has wonderful fantastical worlds, and he avoids a lot of common YA cliches.

Yeah I know, I just don't know any of their names. I wasn't 'forgetting'.

@Yamatsu

Heck, Tolkien CREATED the Dragon's Hoard trope! I attribute his works and Dungeons & Dragons to influencing my writing as a whole.
