"Good plan. But what about Harper? Are we waiting for her? And who is that?" Bains asked, pointing to Wylen.
"Good plan. But what about Harper? Are we waiting for her? And who is that?" Bains asked, pointing to Wylen.
"I don't really know his name, but he wants to help. Harper is meeting us here when she's done with the kids. Oh yeah, he's also deaf so we need to speak a bit slower for him to read our lips since I have no knowledge of sign language except yes, no, mother, father, and eat."
Wylen held up his hand to sign his name, but then lowered it after lip reading the last thing the girl said. Well, this will be difficult. I need a notepad or something….
Bains perked up, and turned to the new guy. "I know sign language!" He said excitedly. "Whats your name?"
"Wylen." He finger-spelled, grinning at the fact that someone here would understand him. "Nice to meet you. Who is she? Who are you?"
Bains grinned. "His name is Wylen." The he went off, signing letter for letter his name, and Sam's name, speaking while also moving his hands.
Bains and Sam. Hopefully I'll remember that. He thought, nodding to tell Bains that he understood. "I said I would help, but what exactly are we doing? Something about an ambush and…bombs?"
"Yes. Another girl, Harper, is about to come help us. Right now she is with children. But we have a plan to ambush the other side and steal some of their weapons."
Wylen nodded again. "Sounds good. I'll stick with you two. You seem to know what you're doing." At least he hoped they did. He'd been wandering around not knowing anything for most of his life, and really needed to figure out what was happening in the world.
Bains turned to Sam, and crossed his arms. "Your the leader in the situation, we'll follow you."
"Ok, well what I said earlier and we need an escape plan. What are your thoughts?"
Bains nodded. "First we need to take out the guards, obviously, but I'm sure you can handle that. Then once we're in, we should only send two. I vote you and I, and Harper and Wylen can keep watch. We need to sneak in through an air shaft, I know one that drops into a bathroom. I bet you we could ambush some guards and steal their uniforms. I think we're both tall enough to fool them, but we don't need to show our faces."
Wylen can keep watch. That's all he needed to know. He nodded along, explaining that he understood.
Harper walked out of the school and walked for a while until she saw Bains, Sam and one other kid, making a plan. She walked up to them. "Who's this?" she asked, taking out her knife and polishing it with her worn out t-shirt.
"Wylen, he's gonna help us out. If you know sign language too, it would be very useful since he can't hear." Sam filled Harper in on what they were talking about before adding a bit of her own. "We need to cover our tracks too, you never know if the switch shifts."
She nodded. "I know the alphabet and a few words but that's about it." She smiled a little at Wylen and dug into her backpack, pulling out a notebook. She drew out the plan onto a page.
Wylen watched as the new girl began drawing. He was glad to see that someone here had a notebook. It would be easiest to communicate that way.
"Are we ready?" Sam asked them while taking out her arrow tips and finding sticks to place the on. The tips weren't the sharpest but enough to pierce the skin.
"Can you go over the plan again?" Wylen asked, slightly embarrassed that he wasn't fully getting what they were talking about.
Harper ripped out some of her notebook paper and gave it to Wylen. She also pulled out a pen and threw it to him. "Here, this might help you."
He nearly dropped the pen when the new girl threw it at him, but to his surprise he actually caught it. Wylen nodded, writing The Plan at the top of the paper. "Write it down or I'll forget." He signed. He figured that these signs were easy enough for them to understand through context.
"He says write it down or else he'll forget." Bains said, just in case. "Sam, whenever you wanna go in I'll go with you."
Sam headed for the direction where the bombs were first thrown at. Bains was trailing behind her slightly and Harper and Wylen were writing down the plan. "Let's climb through here," Sam pointed at a broken down old shelter that had multiple stories. "It's much faster."
Bains nodded, and crawled in behind Sam. "We need to make sure that we leave no guards left. We can't have anybody running for help. But I think we got it."
Sam climbed up the ivy vines that had grown on the wall. When she got to the top, she slid into a small shaft and continued crawling through the abandoned place. The shaft smelled from the lack of cleaning and had cobwebs at every turn. Finally she saw some light and they were right at the base they were looking for.
