Jin smirked slightly. "How so?" he asked, raising his eyebrows at her. "If I can do that, than certainly I can get you to eat. You need to eat Night Court food at some point, miss Miyaki. Why not make that tonight, hm? Unless, of course, you're scared?"
"I-it just is." Miyaki muttered, the red in her cheeks growing. She scowled when he insinuated that she was scared, the expression adorable and not really that menacing. "Why would I be scared of eating food? Night Court or no, it is just food. I'm just not interested in putting on any-I'm not hungry." A quick and failed back track. She just hoped it escaped his notice.
Jin's eyes narrowed. "Not interested in putting on any what, Miyaki?" he asked in a voice that had dropped to a deadly soft tone. He took a step closer, brushing a finger against her chin as he looked down at her. "What were you going to say?"
Miyaki avoided his eyes, looking instead to the side, her head turning a bit with the motion. "I-nothing. I wasn't going to say anything." She said, shaking her head and shifting half a step back. Her voice was quiet, like his, though more a hiding-something quiet.
Jin took another step closer to her. "Miyaki." he said firmly. "Tell me the truth, please." he studied her carefully, wishing she was a full Fae. If she was, she wouldn't have been able to lie to him like this. Wouldn't have been able to hide the truth quite so well.
Despite how hard Miyaki tried to bite her tongue, a combination of the Fae part of her and the strange pull Jin had on her brought the words up. “Extra weight. I don’t-I don’t want to put on any more weight. I’ve been too lax about it lately, and I need to go back to watching that.”
Jin narrowed his eyes a little, eyes raking over her before returning to her face. He shook his head. "Why? Why is this important?" he asked, looking at her carefully.
“Because I’m overweight.” Miyaki mumbled, looking down at the ground and shifting on her feet. Her arms moved to wrap around herself, a not great idea considering it just made it more obvious, to her, how much weight she needed to lose.
"You are not." Jin replied immediately. He lifted her chin with his finger, forcing her to look at him. "You are not overweight, Miyaki. You are perfect." his voice was still quiet, though it had lost the edge that it had had earlier.
Miyaki met his eyes hesitantly, surprised by the surety in his voice. Another impossible thing from him. “No, no I’m-I’m not. Whatever it is you think you see…it’s not right. I’m the farthest thing from.” She whispered, hunching her shoulders slightly.
Jin sighed softly, and shook his head. "Do you know what part of being the High Lord of the Night Court entails?" he asked suddenly. "It entails being able to see through nearly all glamours and disguises. None but the strongest of glamours can fool my eyes, and even then I can tell that they aren't real." he looked down at her. "So yes, whatever I see is right."
Fae can’t lie.
Miyaki obviously still had a hard time believing it, but remembering that, and Jin’s statement, created some doubt. She would never believe she was perfect, but maybe she wasn’t what she’d been led to believe. “I still think something’s tricking you, Jin.”
"Like what?" Jin replied, arching an eyebrow. "Not a glamour, though I doubt you can cast them anyway." he looked at her. "So therefore, that means that if anyone is being tricked, it's you, Miyaki. After all, I cannot lie, nor can glamours fool me. But you can."
“How would I be tricked about my own appearance?” She countered questioningly, shifting closer to him without even realizing it. “And it still feels like Somehow, you see something that isn’t there.”
"Because you're tricking yourself." Jin looked down at her carefully. "And of course I see things that aren't there, I'm the High Lord of the Night Court, not sane." his mouth twitched in a slight smirk.
“How am I tricking myself? If anyone knows the truth about me, shouldn’t it be me?” Miyaki shifted her hands to set them on her hips, arching a brow. The piercing on her tongue caught the light every time she opened her mouth wide enough, little glimpses of metal.
"Nope." Jin replied. "Often, the person we fool the most is ourselves." he shrugged his shoulders, looking at her. "We tell ourselves things and convince ourselves that they are the truth."
Miyaki was silent for a minute, searching for any trace of a lie in his face. “One of the Court Physicians told me that I was overweight. So I’ve been trying to diet and lose weight, and it seemed to be working.” She said, closing the distance between them enough to grab his hand, playing with his fingers. “Why would a medical professional lie?”
"Miyaki…you know that not many Fae like you, right?" Jin said cautiously. "It's possible that he…" he sighed. "That he wanted you to starve yourself." he replied.
“I know they don’t like me, but…he wasn’t wrong, exactly.” Miyaki pinched her hip with one hand before returning it to playing with his. “Too soft, physically. It wasn’t the first time. And aren’t there easier ways to get rid of someone than making them lose weight?”
"Miyaki, please." Jin replied softly. "Come eat dinner with me." he sighed, and shook his head a little. "Please believe me."
Miyaki fiddled with his hand quietly before finally looking up, nodding once. “Okay. Okay, I’ll eat with you. Not too much, though.”
Jin sighed. "Mhm. Alright." he gave a quick smile. "Now to find someone who can make…" he waved a hand. "Night Court food."
“We could try asking Levia. She’s the only one likely to know.” Miyaki suggested, giving his hand a small squeeze.
"Alright. Show me to this…Levia." Jin replied, looking at her. He gently held Miyaki's hand, raising his eyebrows at her. "Is she a cook or something?"
