“There’s no way we’re just leaving you here. We need everyone in order to make it out of this whole mess.” Kai replied calmly.
"I'm not leaving without Tyche." Rin waved her hand dismissively. "You guys are the ones on the run, anyway. Besides, I've gotten out of worse scrapes before." She grinned wildly, patting the hilt of her sword.
He rolled his eyes “you’re honestly a bit crazy if you think you can get out of this on your own without dying.”
"I doubt these… whatever they are are creatures you've fought before!" Cassidy said exasperatedly.
"Oh, they aren't." Rin nodded, still grinning. "That just makes it more fun. I've got a few tricks up my sleeve, anyway."
Mm, fear, confusion, both scents he knew all too well. Eventually, the towering beast of his partner returned, standing next to his tree. The pale figure floated downwards. As his form touched down, a burst of what seemed to be black flames sprung forth, covering his form. As the shadowy fire dispersed, a 'human' stood in the creature's place. His eyes were still the cold green, the only thing that stood out and made it clear he wasn't a full human.
The male slowly walked forward, hands keep in the pockets of his jacket. He soon stood several feet outside of the cave entrance, looking into the darkness. The 'man' allowed the silence to settle, instead listening quietly to the panicked conversations happening within the black tunnels.
"It is doubtful you have faced anything like us yes. However, neither my partner or myself mean any of you harm. We are simply here for the young prince in your midst. Please, send him out, and we shall take him back to the safety of the castle walls. I assure you that you will all be rewarded handsomely."
There was a deep rumbling growl from behind, as the towering monstrosity of his partner remained back. Yet her red eyes glowed brightly, menacing.
"If you refuse, then I'm afraid force will have to be used. We have been told to return the prince, through any means necessary."
Dabria has woken and suited up in all of her armor quickly. "No thanks!" She called to the voice outside, presumably some kind of dangerous magical being.
The voice sent shivers up his spine, something about it wasn’t quite right, wasn’t quite human. He looked over at the others. For the good of the kingdom he’d have to survive. But maybe that wasn’t an option. Their journey had only just begun and already it was seeming hopeless.
"If anyone's interested, I might have an idea." Rin spoke up, her grin widening. Tyche was feeding images into her mind of the man, spurring on the idea.
Cassidy shrugged. "I risked my life to save this royal pain once, it seems like a waste to give up now." She lifted her chin. "Whats the plan Rin?"
"A distraction. Giving you all the chance to get him-" Rin jerked her head in Kai's direction. "-out of here. My idea isn't super great, just warning ya."
Cassidy shook her head instantly. "No way, we're not leaving you behind."
“Yeah, we’re all in this together, at least for the moment. So whether you like it or not, we’re not letting you sacrifice yourself.” Kai spoke up.
((I have no regrets over that reference lol
"Y'all are really into this whole 'we're a team' thing, ain't ya." Rin raised an eyebrow, looking amused. "We're killing time here, by the way."
Cassidy rolled her eyes. "For once, I agree with the prince, we're not leaving you behind." She drew her dagger again. "But you are right, we don't have much time. We'll just have to rush them, er, whatever they are. But that won't be enough… we need an advantage."
Rin muttered what vaguely sounded like a prayer. "Okay, whatever. Your lives, I guess. My plan can still work to our advantage here in that case, if you're interested. Just kinda…switch it up a bit."
"I wouldn't recommend going near those things, and we're not leaving any of you behind. I hope your plan fits the requirements," Dabria told her.
"I mean it blatantly disregards the first one." Rin shrugged, looking over at Dabria. "But I've fixed it up to fit the second one, since you all seem to love me so much."
She shrugged. "Your sacrifice wouldn't do enough for us right now so I won't let it happen. What's your plan? We are going to run out of time."
Kamos made no noise as the reply echoed out from the tunnel. Not a very surprising answer, seriously, if the group said they would send the prince out, and he actually walked out, then Kamos would've been slightly surprised. He instead slowly closed his eyes, allowing the quiet of the darkness settle. Though he could hear them in the darkness, their voices hissing and whispering to one another.
One of Devola's ears twitched. The monstrous beast shifted from standing on two legs, then all four, then back to two. She was clearly growing impatient, the heat rolling off her form becoming unbearable to be near. Yet Kamos seemed unbothered by the immense heat.
Finally Kamos' eyes slowly opened, his green gaze steadily looking forward. He once again spoke out, "Very well…it would be a pity for the Kingdom of Hiyaup to hear about their daughter losing her life to the very one she befriended at such a young age. Prince Kai, with the blood of the innocent princess on his hands…I'm sure if such word reached back home, an inevitable war would be held against Kingdom Hiyaup and the Prince's own."
(I really want Dabria to yell "try me bitch" but I won't)
Rin winced, motioning for everyone to huddle up. "Ignore him. He could very well be bluffing, or serious, and there's no point in trying to tell."
"No, he's telling the truth." She pointed to her head to remind Rin of her magic. "Maybe if my parents were still in charge of Hiyaup, they wouldn't retaliate too badly, but Chimere is the queen. I know what she's like. She doesn't know Kai and she'd track him down."
Cassidy sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Great, now we're dealing with politics."
