(Minutes, lol. I had to take my dog out. And I did kinda want my character to be late.)
(Alright! Then let's get this RP moving!)
Just then, the door to the lab opened. A bespectacled beanpole of a man stood before them. He wore a blue button-down shirt and jeans underneath a white lab coat, and his hair was lightish brown and spiky in the front. Professor Elm! Anna thought with a bolt of recognition.
"Ah! You're the beginning Trainers I was expecting!" he said, then motioned for them to come in. "It's a little messy, but welcome to the lab."
Looking around, Anna had to disagree. The lab wasn't a little messy, it was trashed. Books were pulled off of shelves, papers were strewn everywhere, and one of the shelves was even knocked over.
Zozzie peered around the lab with a quizzical stare and a raised eyebrow. "Yeah, a bit." They muttered sarcastically, Author scrunching up her snout at the mess. "You're Professor Elm, right?" Zozzie asked.
Caesar had a very slight smile on his face. He was excited, but also nervous.
"It's good to meet you, Professor Elm."
He glanced around the disaster of a lab, and he was intrigued more than disgusted by the mess.
The professor nodded. "Yes, I am," he replied to Zozzie, then sighed, glancing at the toppled shelf.
"If you don't mind my asking, what happened?" Anna inquired. She wasn't the tidiest person herself, but this was…this was just weird. She couldn't help but be suspicious.
"It…was a break in," Elm answered. "Somehow, the culprits managed to turn off the security cameras, get inside, and ransack the place without setting off any alarms or waking anyone up. They even made off with research and some Pokemon."
The train was late. Which was actually great, really, since the meeting started at the sunrise of noon, and now it was almost an hour after. Annie stumbled off the train that came from Kalos, sighing as she hurried through a few quiet towns the professor's lab. As she quickly ran out of breath and her breath constricted, this is when she wished she had a Pokemon to ride or a bike. Not even something to rent. She stumbled up to the lab, absolutely exhausted. She pushed in, realized the doors were automatic and stumbled in. She tried not to press more attention to herself and hurried to the back of the group, her cheeks flaming red.
Caesar felt a wave of fear pass over him. This mess wasn't just the work of a mad scientist?
"Do you know who might have done it?" Caesar asked, "Who would want to steal your research?"
He had paled a little bit.
As Annie came late, Caesar's attention switched over to her. He waved, trying not to make a big deal over her lateness, but he unfortunately could not bring himself to smile.
Professor Elm shook his head. "I have no idea. Unfortunately, I'm still taking inventory. When that's done, maybe we'll have some kind of clue, or at least be able to figure out what they want with it." Noticing that Annie had arrived, Elm changed the subject. "I guess we'd better get to the reason you came here sometime today, though. Several of the Pokemon in the lab were taken, but fortunately, the starters were untouched."
Anna's attention went to a machine in the back of the lab where five Pokeballs sat. The professor pressed a button on it, and all the Pokeballs opened simultaneously. Five Pokemon appeared in flashes of light: A Bulbasaur, Litten, Chikorita, Totodile and Cyndaquil all looked up at the new Trainers expectantly. "Wooowwwww," Anna breathed, bouncing on the balls of her feet in excitement.
One of these Pokemon would wind up being her partner! Her gaze lingered on the Cyndaquil for a second, then she looked around at her peers. "So who's going first?" Anna asked.
(Since I have this figured out–finally–I'm gonna drop some plot stuff on you guys. This takes place four years after the games started–HG/SS, to be exact because I'm biased–with Silver as the Champion and the player characters having been dethroned from their positions as Kanto and Johto Champions. Gold, the ex-Johto Champ, left to challenge more Gyms in other Regions. Crystal–I know I said HG/SS but I also wanted to at least nod to the OGs–wanted to research Pokemon in extremely remote areas. The three made a promise to meet again someday to battle and just catch up with each other. However, nobody has seen or heard from Gold or Crystal in several months. Additionally, in case you haven't guessed, I'm making a new evil organization to take place as the villains in this story. I really only have a vague outline of what they're going to be doing outlined, and since it's something that'll be revealed as the plot progresses, I won't say a whole lot about them. What I will tell you is that they're definitely a shadowy bunch and are unknown to most of the general public, so our characters won't know about them at all.)
Zozzie raised their hand. "May I go first?" They asked, letting Author jump off their shoulder and stand on the floor. They were a it skeptical when it came to the process, as they never had anyone to explain it to them in full detail.
Caesar looked between Bulbasaur and Chikorita. He knew he wanted a grass type as a starter, but he was hoping no one else would get to both of them first. He looked at Chikorita again and almost melted from the sheer cuteness.
Simon smiled as his eyes were greeted with the sight of and absolutely adorable Bulbasaur. It's even a bit like me already… he waved slightly, his face lighting up with glee as he noticed one of Bulbasaur's tendril's peek out and mimic his hand movement. Oh my Arceus… so precious! He bounced on his toes and crossed his fingers, hoping no one would pick Bulbasaur before he can.
"Go ahead, Zozzie," Elm responded. Anna found herself holding her breath, hoping that they didn't pick the fire mouse. I guess I should ask to go next, if I want to make sure nobody picks it before me, she thought. It looked adorable, and from what she had heard, it was tough as well.
Author seemed to head towards the Litten, the now energetic Zozzie bounding over. "You're a Litten right? How'd you feel about coming to study with me?" Zozzie asked energeticly, seeming so different from a moment ago.
(You do know you're the one RPing Litten, right? Technically it's your character, hence why I didn't have it or the other Starters do anything)
(Yup, I was just doing a bit of research. I haven't ever played the games, only watched the show and I did that a while ago.)
(Ah. I just wanted to make sure you knew, since you didn't put anything about it in your post. My bad!)
It's fine!!/
Annie decided to look over the heads of the other excited trainers, noting that one already had a Pokemon. Zorua. Ah, I've always wanted one… I've only ever seen Zoroark. Both are really pretty Pokemon… A small wave and crunching noises caught her attention. A Tododile was crunching on its Pokeball, gazing at her intently as its sharp, jagged teeth hardly dented the surface of the hard encapsulator. Huh. What's it doing?
Caesar glanced at Bulbasaur again, but then Chikorita made a loud noise. He looked its way to see that Chikorita was staring him down and doing a cute little dance.
"What, do you like me or something?" he asked, laughing, "What a cutie…"
Since Zozzie already went, Anna looked up at Professor Elm. "Can I go next?" she asked.
He nodded and said, "You know, you don't need to go in any particular order. Just approach the one you'd like and see what happens." Suddenly, Anna felt a tug on her jeans. She looked down and saw the Cyndaquil staring up at her.
"I–do you want me…?" she asked. Her voice cracked a little bit. Cyndaquil nodded, and its back flared to life for a second.
"Quil."
Anna let out a small, quiet, squeaky noise and picked up the little Fire type. "Really? Ohmygod…! Then I choose you!" she declared.
Zozzie gave a small laugh as she walked back to where they were before, both their pokemon perched on their shoulders. Author was sitting on their right shoulder and Litten was on the left, both of them making noises in their ears.
Simon's eyes widened as he heard the Professor. Before any trainer could go to Bulbasaur, he moved toward the pokemon. It gave a trill of excitement at the interest Simon displayed, and reached out to touch his face with a tendril as a sort of greeting. "Would you like to join my team, Bulbasaur?" With that, the pokemon began to wiggle and prance around Simon, elated at the question. "Um… is that a yes?" Bulbasaur nodded her head as vigorously as her body would allow her. "Yay! I choose you, Bulbasaur!"
Caesar kept casting the occasional glance back at the little Chikorita as it kept its gaze fixed on him. He kneeled down next to it and held out his hand. Chikorita waddled closer and pressed her face against his palm.
"You chose me?" he asked.
Chikorita made a pleased grumbling noise and did her little dance again. Caesar laughed.
"Alright then! That settles it. Chikorita, I choose you!"
