Logan was happy seeing the other relaxed and calm.
Roman looked through the stack of costumes before deciding on a couple of random ones that he found fitting for him and Patton. "Now let's put our costumes and do this!"
Things were going great…until one day.
The mindpalace had seemed a tiny bit more gloomy. Virgil was pacing, tugging on his hoodie sleeves.
Patton noticed Virgil and frowned, turning to Logan. “Something’s wrong.”
Logan nodded as he noticed how Virgil was behaving. While he had yet to be the best at understanding emotions, in the few weeks that had passed since Virgil had helped him realize that feeling emotions was necessary, he had picked up on a lot of information about them. He had also picked up on subconscious habits of the other sides and what emotions they corresponded with, especially Virgil, as he was closest with him.
"Virgil?" he asked softly, pulling the other into a small hug to stop him from pacing and to get his attention. "What's wrong?"
“It’s…It’s nothing,” Virgil muttered, leaning into Logan. It was clear something was wrong, though.
Patton crossed his arms worriedly.
Logan shook his head as he sighed. "Virgil, I may not be the best with emotions, but it is rather clear that you are not in a good mood right now," he stated. "I've picked up on some of your subconscious mannerisms when you're upset, and until I stopped you, you were doing those things. Please be honest and tell me what's wrong."
Virgil was shaking a bit, not saying anything.
“Virgil?” Patton asked softly.
“I…I’m so scared…” Virgil mumbled quietly. “Something happened and I’m a bit…on edge.”
Logan nodded in slight understanding. "Could you explain what happened?" he asked, his tone soft. "If you are uncomfortable with doing so, I understand, but I may need more information to fully help you."
Virgil shook his head. “I…I’d rather not.”
Patton gave Logan a worried glance.
Logan glanced at Patton, his expression showing a slight amount of worry as well. However, he managed to calm himself before turning his attention back to Virgil. "I understand, but please provide at least some context whenever you are comfortable doing so. Patton and I are here for you, no matter what, so we are going to calm you down."
“…I just need to take a break…” Virgil mumbled.
Patton perked up. “Then you just sit back and relax! I’ll make everyone some cookies!”
Logan nodded in response to Patton's comment and suggestion. "Yes, you should relax a bit, Virgil. Patton will make cookies, and I'm here to hold you if it helps keep you calm. We'll get through this together."
Virgil nodded, sitting on the couch. “…Okay…”
Patton headed into the kitchen.
Logan sat next to Virgil and gently wrapped his arm around the other. "I'm here for you, Patton's here for you, and the others are here for you. It's okay… I'm right here. We're gonna get through this."
Virgil bit his lip, trying not to cry.
Logan sighed softly and pulled the other closer to him. "Hey, if you need to cry, that's okay. I learned from you that it's not always a good thing to ignore and bottle up emotions. If you feel the need to cry, you can do so. It's healthier for you to do so rather than ignoring your feelings."
Virgil hiccuped quietly, leaning against Logan as tears escaped his eyes.
Logan didn't mind, holding the other close to him as he cried. "Okay, cry as you need to, but once you don't feel an overwhelming urge to, try to take some deep breaths, okay? That should help you calm down."
Virgil hugged Logan tightly, sobbing into his shoulder.
Logan held the other in a tight embrace, hoping to comfort him by doing so. "Take your time. Just let your emotions out naturally. I'll be here no matter what, so don't worry about bothering me."
Virgil was still crying, trembling in the other’s arms.
Logan held Virgil as tightly as he could, simply wanting the other to know that he was there for him. "It's gonna be fine…" he assured softly. "No matter what's going on, we've always overcome any issue. With that, it's a guarantee that we'll make it through this."
Virgil nodded, burying his face in Logan’s shoulder as he sniffled.
"Just breathe, okay? That's all you need to do. Focus on that and my voice. It should help to calm you," Logan told him. "As I've stated, we've overcome every challenge we've faced up until this point, and this one will be no different. We're gonna get through this."
Virgil nodded silently, hugging Logan tighter as he focused on his breathing.
Logan held Virgil as close to him as he could to help calm the other. "See? It's already working. I've noticed a slight change. You seem a bit calmer, even if barely, now that you're focusing on your breathing and me. It's going to be just fine."
