Remus almost jumped at the sound of James’s voice. He glanced at James and then back at his papers for a moment before cracking a smile. “Alright,” he agreed. “I could use something sweet.” He had a major sweet tooth, especially when it came to chocolate.
James and Remus headed out the common room. It was getting late and James didn't want to risk getting caught so he took out the Marauder's Map.
"I solemnly swear I'm up to no good," whispered James and a detailed map of the school appeared.
James was quite proud of the map. He and his friends have been working on it for the past years and it was almost perfect. On the map he saw Professor McGonagall making her rounds around the halls. He and Remus made sure to stay out of her way. They soon approached the kitchens meeting Sirius and Peter.
Remus smiled when he saw his friends, butterflies making their presence known in the pit of his stomach. He tried to ignore that like he usually did, since the butterflies had started to become a regular occurrence around Sirius. Not that Remus would ever tell him that. “Hey guys,” he said by way of greeting.
"Hey," said Sirius, a grin appearing on his face. "Let's go see what we can from those elves!" Sirius tickled a portrait on the wall, the pear to be exact, and it swung open to reveal a busy kitchen full of house elves working to feed the students the next morning. Sirius went in first, followed by his friends. Sirius took a cup of hot cocoa from an elf who had greeted him kindly, and grabbed another. "Cocoa, anyone?" He directed the question to the group, but handed the mug to Remus.
“Yes please,” Remus replied, smiling at Sirius. He took a sip of the hot chocolate, a chocolate mustache on his face. He was oblivious to this, of course, as he smiled at his friends. He looked around for other treats, spying some biscuits as well. “There’s biscuits too!”
Peter stayed quiet and followed all of them in the kitchen, a smile appearing on his face. "Of course, there's biscuits. You can find anything in the kitchen!"
(Sorry it's kind of short)
"Oh! I better get something for Lily," said James. He picked up a second mug of cocoa for her and followed after his friends.
Remus smiled at that, sure that there was something between Lily and James. If only he’d ask her out already. Somehow, he didn’t see the irony in that thought as he grinned at Peter. “That’s true!” he agreed with the smaller boy cheerfully.
Sirius wandered around the kitchen, his arms becoming full of chocolates and other snacks. "Just stocking up," he said to his friends who had questioning looks on their faces. "I've got what I need!"
Lily sat in the Gryffindor common room with a book in her hands and the lamp next to her turned on. She had finished everything she had to do earlier in the day and decided to relax by reading the book she was always trying to read. She had noticed that the common room was quieter than usual. She knew some of the Gryffindors were sleeping, and others, well, she didn’t quite know. Either way, she was surprised how quite it was. She accepted that quietness, but it creeped her out just a bit.
The boys finished raiding the kitchens and headed back to the common room. As he entered, James noticed Lily sitting on a cozy armchair, engrossed in a book. He walked over to her and tapped her shoulder.
"Hey, I got cocoa," he said handing her a mug.
Lily looked up from her book as soon as she heard James voice. She closed the book and put it to the side, then took the mug that was being handed to her. She smiled brightly at James and took a sip of the cocoa.
“Thank you.” Lily said after a few seconds.
Remus grinned at the exchange, turning to Sirius and Peter. “I bet you ten pounds they start dating before the end of this year,” he whispered to them.
"Not taking it," Sirius replied, his eyes on Lily and James. "It's gonna happen." He smiled playfully and sipped his cocoa. Then he flinched and stuck his tongue out. "Ow! That burned- it was really hot. Is yours that hot too or did the elves just mess mine up?"
Remus laughed at him before taking another sip of cocoa. “Mine’s fine,” he responded. “But maybe I’m just better at tolerating it.” He grinned at Sirius.
"Hey guys," James greeted his friends after chatting with Lily. "I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna ask Lily Evans out!" He said with confidence. In truth however, the seemingly confident James was rather nervous and a knot in his stomach began to form. James had liked Lily since first year and had been trying to charm her since then.
Remus smiled. “You should do it!” he agreed, trying to hype his friend up. “You guys would make such a cute couple.”
"Yeah, c'mon! What's the worst that could happen?" Sirius fell back into a chair a kid had just left. "She wouldn't say no to James Potter."
Peter chuckled at Sirius' comment. "Well, it might be because of us. If anyone dates any of us, they get the rest of us as an add on."
