"And it doesn't think like that. It's only emotions are hunger. It wants to kill and consume everything living around it."
"And it doesn't think like that. It's only emotions are hunger. It wants to kill and consume everything living around it."
The girl frowned unhappily while she watched the moving pieces, then glanced over to Runner. Her face brightened. "Runner!?" (It's Cin)
"Yeah. Tessie, like, dropped off the face of the Earth, and that other world. Any clue where?" He seemed generally unconcerned, looking down at his feet and kicking something.
Cinthia: "Work. She's got the nose of a bloodhound, so I sent her off to track something down for me." She glanced skeptically at his attempt at appearing unconcerned. "She'll be fine. Others from our team are with her."
"Wish I could've known. Scared the shit out of me." He squinted at something on the ground, bending over and picking it up.
"What do you have there?" she asked while eyeing the Wendigo.
"Its heart." He played with the small piece of ice that was sketched into the shape of a man.
"Oookay? How does that help us?"
"It's the only way to kill it." He looked at it for a few more seconds, then crushed it.
Foxglove coughed. "Could I have the shards, sir? For studying purposes? I assure you, now that I've seen it killed, I can reproduce the conditions for killing it if it comes back…" He glares at the other two, who are stifling laughter behind their hands.
He glances around for Alice. "Where did the girl with the light box go? I wanted to ask her some technical questions…"
"And he's 'not that interested in the occult,' he finds it 'dull'," Stardew muttered, and she and Trouble go into more laughter.
"No. This needs to be buried in a silver box. In a church cemetery. Unless you want it randomly reforming inside of your home."
Foxglove shrugged. "I suppose it would be better to bury it, as I can't carry it all the way to my home …the havoc it might cause… Stardew, have you heard of wendigos back home?"
"If they exist back home, they're probably deep in the magicked forests," Stardew replied. "Knowing you, I'll probably not see you for the next two years while you search for them." She turned to Runner.
"Do you need a box for the shards?"
He stared at the body for a moment, then dropped the shards back to the ground. "I…I have someone I'm looking for. It won't be back for a long time. I'll be back for it, though."
Stardew shrugged and kicked a bit of dirt over them. "As you wish. Are you looking for your friend Tessie? Forgive me if I'm being invasive."
He sighed. "Yes, I am. I feel a little off about whatever she's doing. And my feelings typically aren't wrong."
The three exchange glances.
"We could help, if you want," Trouble said. "Our plans are kind of shot through for the night, and being Alnaschari, well, we're always looking for an adventure."
Cinthia tuned back into the conversation. "Tess is fine, like I said. She's just out looking for something for me."
He looked at her, making eye contact. "She gets hurt…I'll throw myself at you and make you feel bad for beating the shit out of me."
She raised a brow. "I don't recall fighting you. Even still, if Tess gets hurt, I'll hunt down the prick myself and rip them to shreds."
"I meant after the hypothetical fight."
"Ah." She furrowed her brow at the Wendigo remains, then turned to the other three people. "Can anyone explain to me what exactly happened here? I just figured out my own predicament, so knowing what I'm getting into would be nice."
The three Alnaschari look almost disappointed, but soon collect themselves. "Well, then. Doubtful she'll be needing us," Stardew said. "May I ask you what she's looking for?"
He shook his head. "That was bad, wasn't it? I've been trying to do things to make myself seem…more interesting."
Cinthia flicked her gaze between Runner and the group, not sure who to address. She settled on both. "Runner, you're doing fine. You three… I suppose we all could join her, if you really want to help."
"So, whom is she chasing?" He asked, pulling his left sleeve up.
