So let me put this out there first: I am white, alright? Like…pasty white, all-my-ancestors-were-from-the-British-isles sort of white. So I need some help. I want to include some POC in my stories, but I am not quite sure how to go about that. I know that I should not describe their skin in comparison to food ("chocolate" or "mocha" or anything of the sort), but…I am not sure what words I can use. I am not really sure of…anything. And while I have been doing research, I would love some input from anybody on here that can provide some.
Thank you in advance!

My best advice would be to just relax about it. People of color are just regular people and stressing about it will only make writing more difficult.
Personally, I never describe my characters as being white so I don't see why it must be said if their not. If it doesn't come up naturally, it doesn't need to be said.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

Thanks! And yeah I would just do that, but I tend to describe people, and the person in question is currently disguised as someone else, and so when they are revealed to have been in disguise, I need to be able to describe that they look very different now (it's sci fi, so the disguise changed literally everything about them)

You could always use a variation of light and dark.

"Her skin was a rather light brown, too dark to be considered just tan."
"His face was a dark, brown, almost black, but in the light, it was clear it was only a rather dark brown."
"The extremely light pale face of hers' was a sickening sight. The sight of her pale tone was icy, and stomach churning."
