Coco got up, uninterested and walked around wanting to leave.
Clover tilted her head curiously, gaze honed in on the runes.
Finally, the two Scorpons ran at each other and clashed. They ripped each others bellies with sharp claws, and whacked each other with their tails. Scorpio flapped his powerful wings, disorientating his opponent long enough to slash his eyes. The other Scorpon retaliated quickly, red blood spattering on the already-stained ground. He ripped at Scorpio’s wings, thinking they would be a soft spot, but Scorpio only grinned and flapped them, rising slightly above his opponent before dropping down. They wrestled on the ground.
Coco almost vomited at the blood and hurried around trying to leave, "Agh where is the exit?" She shouted, messing with her messy braid.
His watched, listening quietly to the interaction between the female and her companion. Yet said not a word, remaining with his back leaning against the wall. Both ears laid back in an instant though as she looked towards him, asking her question. That was something he was hoping to avoid.
His eyes narrowed, pupils thinning into slits. The girl seemed innocent enough, perhaps having other intentions. There couldn't be others back where he was from that came this far…
"I…work around dragons," he lied, having the thought pop up, knowing very well he was actually hated by dragons.
He quickly averted his gaze back down to the fight, "Name's Tatsu by the way, since I heard your name from your companion."
Kiriti narrowed her eyes. "No, I smell dragon in you. I know the difference, Tatsu."
Scrip looked around a noticed other non-Scorpons in the crowd, one nearby trying to leave.
“The exit is that way,” he said, pointing with his tail to an archway beneath the stands.
Scorpio and his opponent broke away, and the unarmed Scorpon jumped up and lashe his tail at a glowing red rune shaped like a tiny flame. His tail promptly lit itself on fire, though not burning him. He lunged again at Scorpio and lashed his tail at him, setting Scorpio’s wings on fire and simultaneously extinguishing the one on his own tail. Scorpio bat his wings quickly, trying to put out the flames. The smell of burnt skin reached the stands.
Clover narrowed her eyes at the battle, then they darted around. Someone is watching me. She ignored the feeling for now. "Use runes in battle too." Clover observed.
Coco backed away from Scrip's tail but nodded, "Thanks." She said, smiling
Tatsu seemed to heave a sigh. He closed his eyes, ears remaining flat back. Just couldn't hide it, always caught up to him…
"Damn't…mind keeping your voice down about it? Might as well get it out; Yes, I am part dragon and part kitsune. My father a kitsune, my mother a dragon. Whatever happened to my parents, I'm not sure…just that I'm considered a mutt and despised by both kitsune and dragon."
His eyes opened, the gaze hardening. A glint of the scales beneath the fur covering his ears shown slightly in the light, "So now that you know what I am, I won't be the least bit surprised if you either try to kill or capture me…take your pick."
Tatsu ended the sentence with a shrug.
Kiriti flattened her ears in shame when Tatsu told her to quiet down. She then tilted her head quizzically when he was done. "Why would I do such a thing? I see nothing wrong with that–most of my friends are what you would call a mutt."
Scrip looked around and realized that the non-Scorpons were the only ones not cheering. They seemed to be talking amongst themselves, ignoring the epic battle in the arena. He shrugged, or at least would have if he had shoulders or a head, and went back to watching the battle. It was over now, and Scorpio was parading around his fallen opponent. They were both bleeding from multiple places, but Scorpio ignored his wounds and seemed to be just fine, even though one of his eyes was swollen shut. The mage Scorpons released their magic, and the runes disappeared, fading into nothing.
He noted the change in her posture, ears laying back, like his own at the moment. Though unlike his, hers were more of a submissive appearance. Tatsu watched her carefully, then responded, voice blunt, "As would be the case with others before you. A looming war between dragons and kitsune…about as bad as the war across the seas between the dragons and humans there."
His eyes shifted back below, unaffected by the splatter of blood or the strange magic happening between the opponents. The male watched for several more moments, then spoke again, "A mix of a dragon and kitsune at the time, is considered a crime. So I have been laying low to the best of my ability, and just hoping that either the clans will back off, but the way things are going, the dragon clan and kitsune clan are going to have a full on clash instead of the minor ones."
Kiriti tilted her head the other way. "I am not from around here, so I was not aware of such a war." She turned to where her companion had gone, sticking out her tongue. "He won't do anything anyways," she said to herself before turning back towards Tatsu. "A colleague of mine is a sun dragon shapeshifter, but is half human. She is hunted just as you are for being different. Though, her previous… occupation… made matters worse." She jerked her head towards her disappeared companion. "Fenris was an assassin, a half-elf of illegitimate breeding. He was turned into a Hellhound after being killed by a fellow assassin."
Tatsu listened quietly to Kiriti as she started to talk about the place where she must be from. The male looked towards where she glanced, one ear swiveling forward, but then looked back to her.
"Half dragon and half human, we call those Dragonkin, one parent being a dragon and the other human, or both parents being dragonkin."
He went quiet again for a bit. Tatsu allowed her words to sink in, letting his thoughts wander. Though he was brought back out of his thoughts by the cheering of the crowd. Seemed a winner had once again gained a victorious stance.
"Seems to be the case with any creature that isn't considered 'pure' bred so to speak."
Kiriti shifted, ears twitching at the cheering. "This is so similar to the tournaments…" she wondered out loud. She shook her head and addressed Tatsu again. "Do you know what the kitsune where you are from are like?"
Coco went to the door only to be met with a guard, "No leaving until this event is done."
"When is that?" Coco asked fidgeting with her braid.
"3 hours."
"Oh…"
A tall male approached Coco, a scar running over his blind eye and his remaining silver one fixing on Coco. "I can provide you company until you're allowed to leave." He flicked his gaze over to the fighting in the arena, then back to Coco. "I do not care to watch the festivities."
"Ummm…" Coco bit her lip, the guy was a little intimidating, "Uh, sure? I guess?"
His eye flickered, knowing she saw him as intimidating and feeling bad. "I'm Fenris, by the way." He led her to an out of the way spot, still in the arena but farther back from the fighting.
"Nice to meet you Fenris." Coco hurried after him, "I'm Coco."
His own ears twitched a bit, hearing her comment about the event happening before them. Tatsu shifted a bit, arms coming to cross and rest in front of his chest.
"The kitsune back home tend to be elegant, high-bearing creatures. They pride themselves in their beauty, as well as their trickery. The major Kitsune clan, Clan Yiuoax, are considered the most powerful of the clans. It is them who call the shots, and when other clans have trouble, they go to them. Relationship between kitsune and man, nothing like over the seas with dragon and man. Humans don't bother the kitsune, kitsune don't bother them. Though curiosity can get the best of some. There is only very rare occasions a kitsune will take a human life, and that is only if they are threatened. They try to refrain from violence, preferring a peaceful approach."
Kiriti nodded, comparing it to her clan. "If they ever were to… choose a lifestyle that can typically be violent, would they be punished? Shunned?"
Fenris nodded at Coco. "Nice to make your acquaintance." He gestured to the arena. "What brings you here, if you are so eager to leave so suddenly?"
"My friend," She sighed, "They said it'd be cool and I'd like it. They talked about scorpions and stuff so I thought it was like a nature thing, but no instead, it's blood and guts. I hate blood and guts." She ranted sounding annoyed.
