Time has taken its toll upon the elderly King Regis of Lucis. Upon the death of his father, Prince Noctis ascends to the throne alongside his beloved wife, the fair Oracle Lunafreya. Though he wants nothing more than to seclude into the deepest recesses of the Citadel to mourn, his beloved wife coaxes him out from his self-made prison. Instead, the new King and Queen elect to travel through their realm alongside their royal retinue, accepting the fealty and condolences of their people and taking a new appreciation for their beloved homeland.
Sir Cor, former General and a sword-sworn Knight of the late King, invites them to his home of Varadinum where he holds a ball in honour of the new King's ascension. Sir Ignis Scientia, Hand of the King and a knight himself, has been ever at his liege's side. Never one to let down his guard, Sir Ignis keeps a close eye on the new King until a certain hem of flowing lace catches his eyes. From the shadows, a woman watches, and Ignis' stance changes from that of apprehension to defense when she makes fast for Noctis. His dagger at his side, Ignis expects the worse - instead he receives a quick hand, a grip stronger than his own, and eyes of old amber glowing bright behind nightlocked lace.
"Our resident witch," Cor explains to them afterwards. Ignis cannot tell if he's sincere. The image of glowing gold eyes remains with him though, and he sees them in the skies as he would the moon. His trepidation turns to curiosity, and the more he endeavours to learn about the black laced woman, the more he realizes how little he knew of their world.
Thousands of years ago, the royal family of Lucis learnt to harness the powers of a sacred crystal to manipulate the elements. They shared this power with their allies, and it was through this force that Lucis flourished as the prime nation. The crystal has since gone into hibernation though, and Eos has not seen magic in hundreds of years.
Araeya is the sole exception. Man cannot comprehend the forces which influence her nature - nor can she. The last werewolf walks Eos alone, uncertain of her true nature and what binds her to this world.
