Marks of the Moon
A world in which people are divided by status. At the strike of someone's 16th birthday, they get a moon mark, either a Light Moon, Crescent Moon, or Dark Moon. Said mark will determine how the rest of their life plays out. A group of teens set out to destroy all rules surrounding these marks, to break all associations that Darks are evil, Crescents are unworthy, and Lights deserve the best.
Fantasy fiction, sort of dystopian and science fiction, and a combination of romance and darkness.
It just kinda happened ig lmao.
My universe will be set in England in the far away future. Some humans will have developed powers thanks to their Moon Marks, some people being shunned by this and others rising into light. Humans will have split up based on their marks, the Lights ruling all while the Crescents live to serve them and the Darks are treated like criminals for something they have no control over. Animals will also have developed, based off of the three marks.
People with Light Moon Marks are automatically guaranteed a power. Powers may vary in strength and they definitely vary in type. People with Crescent Moon Marks are guaranteed to never have powers in their life. People with Dark Moon Marks have a 2 percent chance to gain powers, these usually being more powerful and stronger than any Lights' power, hence why Lights have shunned Darks and accused them for being evil.
The technology is slightly higher than in modern times (right now), but it seems like it is so much more advanced (especially in the Light cities and palaces) because of the powers of certain people helping with everyday tasks.
Red Queen (by Victoria Aveyard) and The Young Elites (by Marie Lu) are my main sources of inspiration for this universe. One of my characters in this series (Oliver) is heavily based off of one of my real life friends (I know, I have friends, wow, look at me go).
People gain their Moon Marks through their parents' markings. Children (upon the age of 16) have a 46% chance of getting their father's maker and a 46% chance of getting their mother's mark. They also have an 8% chance of getting a Dark Moon Mark, so whatever happens, one always has a chance to be shunned and harassed for the rest of their life.
Animals in this world are also based off of a Moon Mark. Animals gain their mark from birth, with the same Moon Mark percentages as humans. Although they have no powers, animals' fur/feathers/scales will vary depending on their Moon Mark. Animals with a Light Moon Mark will have lighter fur; a pale blue, yellow, or white, and their fur is really silky and fluffy, their feathers are soft and delicate, or their scales are shiny and crisp. Animals with a Crescent Moon Mark are kind of basic, mainly grey variants with red/orange/brown accents to their fur/feathers/scales. Animals with a Dark Moon Mark are shades of dark black, with jet black glistening eyes.
