Doomed At Birth

Upon Rhoten's long awaited birth, it was noted that he was pale and seemingly anemic, a bad omen in his family's culture, especially for the first born. He had nearly no fur and what little he did, was stark white. On his fingertips and paws, were pinkish pads of flesh, though his nose are claws were a typical black color. To anyone in a developed territory, this would have just been a telltale sign of recessive trait.
Unfortunately for Rhoten, he was eventually deemed an untouchable after not being able to grow out of his "condition" and was eventually left to fend for himself among the cattle.

Ritualistic Cleansing

In their misguided attempts to cleanse their child of his "affliction", Rhoten's parents decided to crop his tail and circumcise him, to make him pure. Unfortunately it was done with no anesthetic and he had to recover alone, with little to no care.
He was made to do several rituals afterwards, including taking scalding hot bath with strong herbs and praying to some deity he knew nothing about.

Sent Away

During one of the tribe's travels, they happen upon a roaming curator of oddities, who expresses interest in anything peculiar the tribe may have to offer. Of course Rhoten's family brings him forward, especially excited to be rid of what they consider a nuisance and also gaining funds for the rest of their family at the same time.
