Warforged

Warforged are unique in that while they are constructs not unlike the traditional golems made of stone or similar creatures, they have souls. Each one was once living, their soul taken from their bodies of flesh to be placed in ones made of stone, wood, metal, or some combination thereof.

Some of this was voluntary, the ill wishing to extend their lives or prisoners wishing to do so in exchange for their freedom. Others were less so, with nations looking to make use of what they deemed as the otherwise useless.

Their name comes from being first made as weapons of war; soldiers that did not need to sleep or eat but could still follow more complex orders than other constructs. That could still be controlled because of their bodies, and used to whatever ends the people who made them needed.
