Astral Fairy
While closely related to normal Fairy folk, astral faeries are also distinctly different. Their patron, The Great Scribe, decided to be done with the feywild and all the distractions for her subjects and moved them into the astral realm where she could build what she needed and focus on her documentation of the material plane.
Though life in the astral plane technically prevents aging, the magic of the Great Scribe is such that it allows for any children to age normally into adults. During these childhood times they bear a colorless aura and spend their time learning so their place within the hierarchy of the astral faeries can be known when they reach adulthood. At that time their aging is halted, and they begin to work within the various facets of society.
Astral fairy auras are as follows;
Colorless: Those who remain colorless into adulthood are given the most mundane tasks of astral fairy society. They are teachers, waste workers, builders, and things in a similar vein that are necessary for a society to function but aren't related to scribe work.
Blue: The most common color for an astral fairy to bear, blue are the regular scribes. They spend their days watching sections of the material plane and write down everything they can to document what is happening. If they spot anything that might be of major historical significance, however, they are expected to inform someone with an orange aura to monitor things, turn over any documentation they already made, and turn their attention elsewhere.
Green: Faeries with green auras are editors and overseers for blue faeries. They take the scrambled documentation and edit it into work that suits the standards set forth by the Great Scribe so it may enter the archives as something legible and standardized.
Yellow: Those with the yellow auras are the archive keepers. They keep the archive in order, sorting anything that comes in from the blue and green faeries into its proper place within the library from the mundane documentation such as day to day events to special categories such as documentation of special historical figures or events.
Orange: These faeries handle people and events that are known to be of special importance. Examples include, but are not limited to, leaders of cities or major organizations, the overall construction, rise, and fall of various civilizations, and powerful individuals such as wizards.
Red: Faeries with red auras are to the orange scribes what greens are to the blue; they edit the work of the orange scribes and ensure it is up to standard.
Pink: Only a handful bear the pink aura, and their work is involved in organizing and maintaining the work of the orange scribes in the special sections of the archive. They are also among the most powerful, prepared to risk everything to protect these special sections in case anything happens.
White: While faeries with white auras can sometimes be mistaken for colorless by outsiders, anyone within the astral fairy society can easily tell the difference. Colorless ones appear to be grey toned, while white auras are the purest, brightest white. But the mistake is understandable given that it is rare to see a white scribe inside the citadel - they are its foot soldier defenders, sitting along the walls and outer sections to defend their home from anything else residing in the astral that might think it's a good idea to stage an attack or invasion.
Black: The most elite soldiers and defenders of the citadel, faeries bearing a black aura are a bit of a misnomer as instead of projecting an aura around themselves they seem to actively absorb all light much like black holes. This makes them nearly invisible against the backdrop of the astral plane and grants them the ability to manipulate gravity to hold enemies down while white faeries take care of the rest.
Purple: Only one astral fairy has a purple aura...or so the rumor says. No fairy alive now remembers the exodus from the feywild, the last time the Great Scribe herself was seen. When she built the citadel in the astral plane she built it with a sanctum at the center of the city in its highest point, which emits a faint purple glow. Supposedly she keeps all the works of her scribes there, but as no one has been allowed inside since its construction and no one has seen the Great Scribe for many generations it is nothing more than speculation on the part of the rest of the astral fairy population.
[This is a playable race, basically a slight reflavoring of the existing fairy race with a bit more background. Created by Dais, one of my players!]
