Dwarf
Dwarves are a bold and hardy race known for their loyalty and skilled craftsmanship. They can live to over 400 years old and are considered young until they reach the age of 50. Dwarves only allow trusted individuals into their settlements.
There are three sub-races of dwarf; hill dwarves, mountain dwarves, and the Duergar.
Dwarves are fond of well-crafted jewellery.
• There is little difference between the genders with regards to height and weight.
• Mountain dwarves tend to be taller and lighter-skinned than other dwarves.
• Duergar may grow to be giant sized.
• Dwarves tend to hold on to an element of their hard, guttural accent when speaking other languages
Skintones range from deep brown to paler, reddish hues; light brown or deep tan are most common.
• Dwarven hair is often black, grey, or brown. Paler dwarves may have red hair.
• Dwarves tend wear their hair long and simply styled.
• Male dwarves pride themselves on their beards and groom them regularly.
(Do dwarves in general take pride in their hair? Do they have specific haircare/ methods/ styling techniques? Is it significant to not cut it; what would they say about a dwarf with short hair?)
Around 150lb; they weigh more than a human their size would
They are often lawful.
Dwarves may hold prejudices against goblins and orcs. Their decisivness and will may become stubbornness. They can be slow to forget perceived injustices and wrongs; a wrong done to one dwarf is a wrong done to the clan, which can lead to clan feuds. Their love for precious metals and fine jewlery can fester int avarice.
Dwarves are often known as skilled warriors, miners, and workers of metal and stone.
In other lands, dwarves are typically artisans:
• Weaponsmiths
• Armourers
• Jewlers
They are skilled warriors, praised for their courage and loyalty:
• Warriors
• Mercenaries
• Bodyguards
Dwarves mine and craft what they can; they trade for anything they cannot. They dislike boats, so they thend to form trade structures with halflings and humans who are willing to cross waters.
Dwarves highly value social standing. Dwarves cherish their clan identities and affiliations, recognise related dwarves, and invoke their ancestors names in oaths and curses. To be clanless is terrible to dwarves.
(nameless dwarf who is clanless and flaunts this???)
Dwarves are devoted to their Gods, who uphold the dwarven ideals of industrious labour, skill in battle, and devotion to the forge. THey may feel drivien by the command or insperation of a deity, a direct coalling or a despire to bring glory to one of the dwarf gods.
Dwarves adhere strongly to tradition, though specific traditions can vary between clans.
• A dwarf's name is granted by a clan elder; the name belongs to the clan and not the individual. A dwarf who brings shame to the name is stripped of it and forbidden to use any dwarven name.
• Dwarves evoke the names of their ancesos in oaths and curses.
• "The difference between an acquentance and a friend is about a hundred years" is a common dwarf saying.
• "Skin made of iron, steel in our bones; to dig and dig makes us free" is a dwarf blessing often paraphrased when drinking, similar to 'cheers'.
Important motivators to a dwarven character may be:
• Persuit of treasure; for it's own sake, for a specific purpous, or for alturistic desires.
• Religious calling.
• Clan and ancestory; restoring a clans lost honour, avanging a wrong the clan suffered, or earning their plac ein their clan followign exile.
