Mordaria
Sprawling city, technologically advanced (for an era with post-WWI technology)
Capital city of the Prominence Empire.
Standard no stealing, killing, etc.
Magic is completely outlawed. If you are even suspected of having magic or harboring magicians, you are immediately jailed indefinitely. No due process, no nothing. You are then sent to hearings in front of a magistrate, and he (always a man) will decide the defendant's fate.
Government will NOT always provide an attorney, only nobles are guaranteed one. They usually can afford the more expensive ones, so it really doesn't matter.
Nobles are usually given preference to the lower-status citizens. Lower class people can rise to more prominent ranks, though it doesn't happen very often.
Gold, silver, and bronze.
Seedy underbelly trades in materials sometimes, but cash is king. Exchange rates are the same in human settlements, but they vary between human and dragon societies due to their rarity (can be a bit confusing at times).
Common, Thievescant in the shadier parts of the city.
15,000 people
Baseball, soccer, shooting and archery, fencing (mostly for the nobles)
New England-like climate, balls hot in the summer and freezing cold + snowy in the winter. The "Goldilocks temperature" doesn't last very long, maybe a month or so with the few odd days here and there.
The forests around the city are extremely dense, but the city itself is clean. Wide, parisian boulevards are common, and the nobles live on the side of the lake farthest from the common folk, yet also far enough away from the wall of the city.
Apples, Tomatoes, Potatoes, Carrots, Onions, Lettuce, Broccoli, Garlic, Cucumbers, Strawberries, Wheat, Barley, Cabbage, Beans, Asparagus, Corn, Celery
The dense northern forests of the Prominence Empire, next to a large very large lake.
Great Wyvern War
Factories produce all kinds of appliances, vehicles, military technology, metal refineries, etc.
Workers punch in at 7:30, punch out at 5:30. They get holidays and weekends off, hour-long lunch breaks, and sick leave. Maternity leave is there, but it's short. Women are given a week and a half to get things squared away with their children. Daycare, other family members, or simply staying at home and quitting. Parents can quit the factory jobs, but they need to fill out a form to turn in to the foreman. After that, the family will receive a third of the worker's salary to get the child started.
Bolt-action firearms come standard for all military personnel, along with a standard pistol (similar to a Colt Model 1903). Military police have billy clubs, and soldiers have clip-point knives.
Most people can purchase firearms, though licenses are needed and there is a rigorous test that every applicant must take.
Military service isn't mandatory, though many decide to enlist due to the benefits provided (three-hots-and-a-cot, medical care, monthly deposit sent home to the family, etc.).
Tanks are present, gasoline-powered and mostly unused. They were built originally for keeping wyverns and dragons out if they ever attacked. Unfortunately, that never really happened until the Great Wyvern War, and then all doubts were cast aside. They are relatively small caliber, with long barrels for increased accuracy.
Electricity is provided through powerplants, two different plants power different halves of the city. It's no surprise that the one with the most nobility around it is better maintained than the other one. The only places with backup generators are military buildings, the palace, the hospitals, and anyone else who can afford them. Having one of those is a sign of major wealth. The palace itself has two.
Powerplants are coal-powered, coal is taken from a mine a little ways out of the city. They are located on the lake, which is at the center of the city.
Especially poor folk on the very outskirts of the city rely on wood stoves for warmth.
Electric lights are common, there are a few manufacturers within the city. Drip coffee pots, lamps, radios, iceboxes, footpedal sewing machines, electric toasters, vacuum cleaners, lightweight irons, all common appliances in the city.
Wooden and brick homes, the farther into the city you go, the more brick is present. Dirt roads give way to cobblestone which gives way to paved roads.
All middle and upper class homes have electricity, indoor plumbing, and some form of temperature control. Lower class homes have few luxuries, but indoor plumbing is more common than most people think.
Very few farms are in the city itself, though they are large enough to provide food to the whole city and then some. Irrigation, tractors, plows, and other equipment for plants. Meat is imported from other settlements, as it's deemed "unclean."
