Kingdom of Tura
An ancient Monarchy leading the nation of Tura , its namesake.
Monarchy
The nation is lead by the King of Queen - the firstborn son or daughter by birthright for thousands of years.
The Code - the collection of laws which govern the nation - is maintained by the devout - an order of legal scholars who are elected into lifelong terms by citizens.
Tradition, Honor, and Law (with a fair bit of keeping the nation prosperous for all of the social classes)
- The crown is a magic artifact that binds the monarch to honor and justice.
- There exists certain rites that an heir may undergo to remove their parent in the event that they must be deposed.
Meritocracy - outside of the monarchy itself, all wealth and power returns to the monarchy with the death of each person.
Secularism - the monarchy is not a religious institution, and most religious institutions are welcome and thrive in Tura
Environmentalism - Due to Tura being responsible for the aethersea disaster, it has committed itself to studying and remedying the aethersea
Legal Rights - The legal rights of citizens are enshrined in the code and it is at the heart of how the monarchy operates.
Universal Foundational Income - when a person turns 18, they are given a sum of money to go and live. By tradition, after they turn 18, their parents are not permitted to continue funding them (though some hire them as employees to get around that)
The legal rights of all citizens and non-citizens are enshrined in The Code. These embody the ideals of honor and justice and generally enforce:
- Contract Law
- Criminal Law
- Ethical Law
Broadly:
- Contracts are legally binding and injured parties may request intervention by the state to enforce the contract
- Murder, theft, and other generally immoral acts are outlawed and enforced by the state.
- Honorable conduct is also outlined and is enforceable by the state.
Multiculturalism - While it is a majority human nation, all races and peoples are welcome to immigrate provided they obey the law and behave with honor.
Broadly, people have a right to privacy (with an exception built in for breaking the law)
Every decade a new slate of scholars are elected.
Ten Years
Justice bound by honor. The code is held above all else, though the penalties tend to be fair and the prison quarters tend to be humane with a focus on reintegration into society.
The approval ratings are almost universally high. They hover in the 80-90% range. Typically minorities tend to approve the least, as the code can often be weaponized against them.
They share only one land border with another nation - the kingdom of Mithclifia, who split from Tura after the Aethersea disaster. They are technically at war over the border between however, that war is rarely fought in that land because of it's aetheric properties warping the land and making it hostile to all life.
Most other nations are either fond of, or fear Tura and it's impressive monarchy, aethersea navy, and army.
Civilian life is generally good. Due to starting on equal footing, Turans are known to have a strong work ethic, are generally honest and honorable, and enjoy a high quality of life. While there are poorer classes, they are almost always non-citizens who have not (or do not want to) complete the process of becoming a citizen.
The biggest war is the Turan Civil War, in which Misthclifia broke away and became its own nation. In the middle of the conflict, the aethersea disaster occurred, effectively ending the conflict though the two sides would be locked in a perpetual cold war for the next several thousand years.
The Chaos Wars - Tura effectively ended the chaos wars with the creation of the crown and the drafting of the first code.
Day of Light - the summer solstice is the most celebrated day of the year.
