Kate is stubborn, rude, hyper-focused, and an overachiever with a quick wit and quicker tongue, but below her rough exterior she really does care about people. She tries to elevate herself above others, having very few close friends, and wants desperately to always be the best (not just her best). She's clever in both academics and general wittiness, and considers herself funny, even if her deadpan humor doesn't always land. Although Kate talks a big game of being yourself and not letting others stop you, she avoids clubs and hobbies she's interested in (such as cooking) because she doesn't think it'll reflect well on her persona. Along this lines, she struggled with internalized queerphobia for years about her own aromantic asexual identity, and is still in the closet due to pressure from her conservative parents.
