Marion Baines grew up in Perry, Florida as a child. He had no powers as far as he was concerned. His abilities to sense things were heightened, he got overstimulated quite frequently as a kid; besides that, he was your usual kid.
Marion did end up going to college on Olympus’ surface, his parents did quite well at their jobs but they encouraged him to get a real job and do something normal, not get involved in the supers and their monkey business. Marion agreed with that.
College was normal, he had a few friends, Lin Minghui being the closest. He got his degree, got a job, everything was going to be alright, right? No.
Minghui, his boyfriend, turned out to be a super, which got Marion dragged into things. They kept the secret together, Marion began taking jobs on weekends in the underground along with his lab job. Speaking of the lab job, things were getting dicey under his nose. Minghui and Marion were nearly killed in an explosion in the labs caused by an unknown source. Minghui tried to save Marion, but Marion was at point-blank. Both of them were severely burned.
Marion would not wake again for some time. He remembers Minghui calling to him. But when he woke up in the morgue at the hospital, he was in a panic. He didn’t care about himself, only his partner. He could not find Minghui. He fled the hospital. He was a walking corpse, god only knew what they would do with him. His pulse was minimal at best, he was cold, and half of his body looked like beef jerky.
He searched for a while, gave up, and went to the underground. Marion’s powers appeared shortly after. Anything he touched, originally even unwillingly would turn to dust. Disintegrating. He didn’t leave the house for days, weeks even, thank god eating wasn’t 100% necessary anymore. Once he got it under control, well, things changed.
Marion began to do things out of desperation, committing crimes, working with Kazimir Volkov again, doing whatever it took. That’s what he decided... to do whatever it took. He murdered, he stole, he made friends, really good friends, he found Minghui’s loving arms again… whatever it took.
Then it bit him in the ass. When everyone you care for is an android, you begin to want what’s best for them too. Marion didn’t want them to have Scavs to deal with. Knowing his strengths, he went after them, he offered to. It was almost heroic. He wanted them to be safe, he didn’t want them to worry. It was a stupid idea.
