Though a few years older than her, Tokala and Tieg Saito grew up together. While he never shared Tieg's ability for languages he did his best to learn, always enamored with her how smart she was and eager to do anything that would keep them close.

When Tieg was given her job as the head archivist Tokala was assigned as her assistant at her insistence because his willingness to learn meant he could help her out and get experience along the way.

Tokala has never expressly said how he feels about her, and whether Tieg is ignorant or just not addressing it up for debate, but for now the two work together well and that's all that matters.
