Shinoco was born to a place that didn't take very kindly to tieflings, and her parents lived in squalor. As she grew it became apparent that the circumstances of her birth and life did not stop her from being curious and wanting to learn everything. With the help of those who knew Shinoco learned how to read and write in not just the common tongue but other languages too, and then she began to get her hands on every book she could find and spent all her time reading and learning.
Magic, however, was the one thing she never had. At least not until her early teens when magical talent emerged in her, marking her as a sorcerer. This was further confirmed by the black scales that began to grow out of her skin in small patches, showing that she had some draconic history in addition to her infernal bloodline that made her a tiefling. This was rather worrying at first, mostly because without the ability to control her powers or a mentor to teach her Shinoco was dangerous. Unintentionally so, but still dangerous.
As luck would have it someone was watching out for her. A former member of the Binder's Archive was living in the town she was born in and had been keeping an eye on Shinoco for a few years, noting that her thirst for knowledge might make her a suitable candidate to learn in ways more akin to wizards. The emergence of natural magical talent, however, was exactly what he needed to convince the higher ups that she should be allowed entry and training among the archivists. He wrote to the archive and they sent someone to talk to Shinoco's parents. Perhaps somewhat sadly they were more than happy to turn their daughter over; the archive would take care of all her needs, taking the financial burden off of them, and if anything happened it would be on the heads of the archive and not her parents who could easily be killed or run out of town if Shinoco had an accident.
Not that it was a surprise, as Shinoco had always suspected she was more trouble to her parents than anything else and she had been planning to leave the small town and go to a bigger city as soon as she saved up the money to travel and support herself for a time there. So with the archive offering a full ride on the condition she keep up her studies and grades and her parents all too willingly agreeing the teen was packed up and shipped off.
As the years passed Shinoco proved to be well worth the investment on the part of the archive. Within five years she had read every book in their expansive library, something achieved by only a small handful and never so quickly. She eagerly soaked up any magical teachings they gave her, paid attention to every lecture and took meticulous notes, and when she was allowed to begin magical experiments she took note of every last thing and documented her research better than most of the professors.
The downside to all of this was that Shinoco was never very sociable with people her own age. While she looked up to the professors and anyone who could teach her anything she found she had very little in common with her peers and juniors and often paid them no mind. Especially because they did not see her value and were content to gossip behind her back about her blood and appearance and everything else because they were jealous of her talent.
Shinoco is still an archivist to this day, now the Head Archivist of the Bellmore division. It's a comfy job that allows her plenty of time to study while attending to other duties and helping people in the same way she was helped as a teenager.
