Nyir Viann
Female
General Viann
Protagonist; general of the First Regiment
35
145lbs
5'6
Dark brown nearing black.
Average height and slightly above average weight for that height. The extra weight is mostly centralized in her hips and her muscle. She is lean and sturdy, with toned muscle over her entire body. The only places she really holds any extra fat is her hips, which are fairly wide compared to the rest of her body.
Deep, smooth brown with cool blueish undertones. Her skin is free of blemishes, besides her scars, and seems to shine in all the right places. Nyir is not very conventionally pretty, but her skin is like a model's.
Black/African-American; she also has edited genes so she has blood from the Secret race running through her.
Dark brown; looks like honey in the sunlight.
None
Typically wears her hair braided or twisted with extensions. Prefers Marley twists because they're practical and last a long time without being too tight. When she wears Marley twists, she usually wears them in a high pony-tail. On the rare occasion that she isn't wearing twists or braids, she wears her hair in low a bun.
-Has many scars along her entire body, but the one that is identifying is across the bottom of her face. It travels along the side of her right cheek, disfiguring her, and ends at her lips.
-Noticeably favors her left side but is working to get rid of that handicap.
Nyir is fast, strong, and incredibly strategic and intelligent. She thinks five steps ahead of everyone else. She is skilled using her ability, but not naturally --she trained (and still trains) hours a day to be good at it. She's a great leader and a good conversationalist when she tries. She gives good, no-nonsense advice for anyone who's willing to listen. She's also tidy and great at organizing.
-Suffers from PTSD from the death of her family/the day she received the scar on her face and the injuries to her right side. Mostly manifests in nightmares and her inability to move on/her hyper-focus on her job. In her daily life, it effects her relationships and her ability to connect with others, along with being able to trust people. She was naturally distrusting before the incident, but now she is much worse: checks her locks multiple times, always on high alert, always tense, waits for the people she cares about to betray her. It takes a long time of unwavering loyalty and reassurance before she finally trusts someone, and when she does, she is completely devoted to them. Sometimes she'll have a few outlying/intrusive thoughts about how they might still betray her, but she'll snuff those down, choosing actively to trust those who are loyal to her.
-Suffers from chronic pain on the right side of her body, mostly her leg and wrist. Nerve damage. Has to take medication for it to be fully functional, and even that isn't without pain.
Frowns a lot of the time. Her expression is either frowning or completely neutral and blank. Runs her hands through the exposed parts on her head when tired. Muscles always taught, like a coiled spring. When amused, she smirks wryly, hardly ever grinning. Her laugh is more of a breathy snort/scoff. Checks and rechecks things such as locks, loading her weapon, if the perimeter is clear, etc.
-Guilt, repressed grief, anger, and vengeance. After the incident, Nyir was never able to think about anything else than getting revenge on the person/race responsible for killing her family. She'll do anything to gain vengeance, including throwing away her existing relationships. Mentally, she's stuck in the past and wants to get closure.
-She has trouble connecting with people because she believes that they will ultimately betray her. However, once she does connect, she is devoted to them and will do ANYTHING to keep them safe, regardless of the moral consequences of her actions.
-Strict to a fault. She is not a rule-follower, but when she makes rules, she expects people to follow them. She isn't very forgiving of people's mistakes and takes them as a sign of weakness.
-She does not fear death whatsoever. She is borderline suicidal from her survivor's guilt, so she can be reckless when it comes to her own life. She will gain vengeance, whatever the cost, because she does not value her own life when it comes down to it.
-She can be extremely disrespectful without quite meaning to. Even when someone has earned her respect, she still treats them the same way she treats everyone else. She does not bother with etiquette or civility, choosing instead to be blunt and honest.
-Emotionally unhealthy. She suppresses everything. She doesn't want to show any vulnerability because she doesn't have many people she trusts enough to show them. She refuses to go to therapy or get the help she clearly needs, instead choosing to drown herself in her work to cope.
-Strong prejudice against the Secrets.
-Slight prejudice against the Board.
-Slight prejudice against weak-willed people and sensitive people, especially people who are pushovers or show a great deal of emotion.
Training, hanging out with her regiment, drinking tea, quiet conversations about life, running, reading long books during rainy days/thunder storms, swimming, gardening, being out in nature.
ISTJ-A: The Logistician
Nyir is deadly calm and focused. What she lacks in flexibility she makes up for in intelligence and leadership skills. She's protective and loyal. She is never emotional, never cries, and hardly laughs. However, she has a secret sense of humor that can only be unveiled by the very few (or alcohol.) She is no-nonsense and intelligent. She has an incredibly strategic mind and can often seen snarky or disrespectful. She's slow to anger but she can get quite snappish if she feels cornered or lied to, or if something triggers her PTSD while she's working. She is sure of herself and because she does not fear death, she is not afraid to take calculated risks. She will not endanger the people she cares about, and would willingly give her life for them. Beyond the battlefield she has a quick wit and a dry humor. She can challenge most people's views easily, and loves to go back in forth in a conversation somewhere between a chat and a debate. She is funnier than even she thinks, because her delivery of everything she says is so dry. No one is indifferent to her: she forces a reaction out of people. Most respect her, a few fear her, many hate her, and many more love her. Although she doesn't let many people close, the people who are close to her find her difficult to understand at times, and they often get frustrated with how long it takes to get past her walls. She will often unabashedly change the subject when she doesn't want to talk about something, even if she needs to talk about it. She doesn't often take no for an answer and will bypass rules that she thinks are stupid. Surprisingly, she takes commands rather well as long as they aren't stupid. She's a good soldier and a good fighter, desperate to gain vengeance.
Has a bachelor's degree in history. She has also been heavily educated on the Secrets.
Born to two ordinary parents in a small town in Ohio, Nyir's upbringing was ordinary. She and her parents had a decent relationship, nothing too strained, even when they divorced when she was sixteen. They weren't very rich, so Nyir paid most of her own college education by working jobs and taking out loans.
The invasion began when she was 21. She was recently engaged when it started to a brilliant scientist named Yuu'mi. They were madly in love. He was the only one who could make her sentimental and soft, and she inspired him to be ambitious and better than he would be otherwise. They were two whole humans who complemented each other perfectly. Yuu'mi was soon recruited to join one of the research teams, the one centered in the university she currently attended, and the one he'd graduated from. While he was getting his doctorate in genetics, he was researching the Secrets. After Nyir graduated, she decided to join the military. Because of her involvement with Yuu'mi and her understanding of his work, she was recruited to join a regiment, one of the task forces tasked with bringing down Secrets. Both of them were incredibly talented, so they were both transferred to the headquarters outside of Atlanta to work together.
Nyir underwent the blending of Secret and human DNA. Secret DNA was startlingly similar to human DNA, but many humans simply weren't compatible. Or so it seemed, until a scientist figured out a way to meld the DNA so that it was compatible. It was around this time when she called herself the weapon. She was tasked with taking down a Secret named Enzo, but what she found was a lot more than she was informed. There were hundreds of Secrets gathered in an old Catholic church. She wasn't able to take them down, so she fled, but they hunted her down and tracked her to the headquarters, even though she was careful and thought she made sure she couldn't be tracked. They attacked the headquarters, killing many people, including her husband, and injuring her greatly (she received a lot of damage on her right side, particularly nerve damage). Afterwards, she discovered she had been pregnant, but the injuries caused her to miscarry.
As it turns out, Evera, the leader of the board and one of Nyir's trusted friends, had know much more about the Secrets than she told Nyir. She had wanted the Secrets to ambush them, moving important personnel out of the building before hand, so that she could see what they could do. Yuu'mi was an unfortunate casualty, she explained, he was never meant to be in the building. Nyir was never meant to be in the building either, but she'd returned for Yuu'mi.
Her faith in the Board and Evera shaken, drowning in guilt and anger, Nyir decides to hunt down every last Secret, starting with Enzo, the Secret that killed her husband. After he attacked the headquarters, he's been a ghost ever since.
January 3, 2099 (?)
Has a fish named Cassandra
Speed
Not a very fast runner, but quick on her feet and able to change directions quickly. Quick reflexes.
Strength
Fairly strong for her size and weight.
Power
She can teleport limited distances. The teleportation does not defy laws of gravity or physics –so if she's falling a great distance, teleporting closer to the ground won't alter her speed and she'd still die. She also can't teleport while being held or shackled without intense training and determination.
Intelligence
High strategic intelligence; fairly good at reading people; low emotional intelligence; average overall/book intelligence.
Nyir loves sweet things, particularly pastries and other baked goods. Doesn't indulge too often, but when she does, she lacks self-control.
Likes small, unassuming animals, like fish and hamsters. Likes well-behaved animals well enough.
Knows how to use a gun, but prefers herself as a weapon ever since she received her ability. Fun fact: when she was the only one in her regiment with functioning abilities, she started referring to herself as "the weapon."
Her husband's glasses and his favorite book lie untouched on her bedside table.
Nyir is partial towards the dark brown of her husband's eyes.
Nyir is the general of the First Regiment in charge of fighting the Secrets.
Libertarian. Politics aren't something she focuses on, but her precarious friendship with Evera leads her to butt heads with the amount of surveillance the government now allows. However, she isn't vocal with her beliefs, choosing to keep them to herself.
Atheism. She at first believed in the God her husband did, but upon his death, it was like her rose-colored glasses shattered. Her faith gradually faded away.
