In his first life, he was born into a wealthy family. His parents died when he was in his late teens and he inherited all their wealth. He frequented the Dreamlands in his sleep and encountered and foiled Nyarlathotep, becoming his enemy. As he lost his ability to dream as he got older, he found the Silver Key and became the king of Ilek-Vad. Eventually, he encountered Yog-Sothoth and a set of events took place in which he was trapped in an alien body. Eventually, he was released from the body, but died upon his return to his own. In death, he returned to the Dreamlands to rule Ilek-Vad.

In his first life, he studied at Miskatonic University. He is well educated and out of college
