X7040-X7048
Yuri was born into the Luphilim race, an extremely rare, migratory kind of werebeast able to transform from humans into winged wolves. Young Luphilim are wingless up until their fifth year, but Yuri was a late-bloomer, and only grew into his wings when he was eight. Once he did, his flying ability was to be assessed by the pack's chief in order to prepare him for the upcoming migration. Before that time, Yuri snuck out with his friend, the chief's daughter, for a test flight. He found that he had a natural talent for flying, and never missed an opportunity to try to impress his friend. They were playing around in the trees one day when Yuri slipped off a branch and fell, injuring his wings. When it was time to take his first official test flight, Yuri found he was only able to glide short distances, and couldn't fly at all. It is for that reason that he preferred to stay in his human form, even though other Luphilim his age mocked him for it. His parents were ranked low in the pack's hierarchy, but Yuri's handicap made them even more unfavorable in the eyes of the pack.
X7048 (Autumn)
It was time for the southern migration over the sea to the winter lodges. The winters had grown longer and colder with each passing year, until they became almost unbearable. Only one out of four children born in winter survived until spring. Usually some of the stronger Luphilim would stay behind and watch over the those who were too old, young or ill to make the journey. However, the coming winter was going to be the worst in all their lives. None who stayed behind were expected to survive. Which meant that this year, the pack made extra effort to take everyone they could with them. The young ones had to be carried, as well as the healthiest of the elders. By the time the preparations were completed, only two of their number were forced to stay behind: Gamma, an old man who'd lost a wing to a bear...and Yuri, who'd be flightless no matter what. Any hope that his parents would vouch for him was dashed when he heard them talking one night. They figured that once they reached the new land, they could have another child who could fly, and hopefully boost their status in the pack. Yuri knew then that they had already given up on him. After hearing all of that, there was nothing else but to accept the fate he'd been given.
X7048 (Winter)
A few hours after the pack had left, Yuri found a letter left in his room. It was an apology letter from the chief's daughter. It turned out that his falling from the tree that day was no accident. The girl had shaken the branch he'd been on and made him lose his footing. She had been envious of his natural talent of flying; in a moment of weakness, that feeling overcame her, and she caused his fall. Since then, she had been filled with nothing but regret, but apparently not enough to come forward about it sooner. Upon realizing that one of his closest friends was the reason he'd been left behind, Yuri's heart filled with rage. Rage and determination. He would show them. He would show them that they were wrong to abandon him. He and Gamma would prove them wrong by surviving.
X7048-X7050
The harsh winter had passed, and Yuri had managed to survive. Gamma, unfortunately, fell victim to the cold. Before he died, he taught Yuri everything he knew about how to live without flight. After his teacher's passing, Yuri struck out on his own at the age of twelve.
X7050-X7056
Yuri lived alone for some time, always moving from place to place. He never returned to his homeland. Though he longed for companions to travel with, his experiences with people on his journeys weren't good ones. After finding out that Yuri was a Luphilim, a rare and legendary creature, many would flee in fear, though some of the more hateful ones tried to capture him and sell him to illegal slave traders for profit.

Competition
"You think your crew gave their lives so that you could forfeit yours? There's nothing honorable about death. People die all the time. Young or old, sick or healthy, sinner or saint. You might as well say that eating or sleeping is an honor. No, anyone can die. Everyone will at some point. But only the strong and true-hearted have the courage to live."
