Nightingale is the last in a long line of assassin's that give power to the powerless.
They were created in the early days of the U.S government to exterminate anyone in power who corrupts their power.

Before she settles down and continues her family tradition she needs to complete her mission in New York. When she is walking home one night some muggers try to stop her, before she kills them Wolfgang jumps them and beats them up. Nightingale is immediately intrigued by his skill and conviction. Soon she sets up a meet with him and they team up to take down the crooked system in New York.

Early on they decide to keep each others identities secret from each other. If they are caught and tortured they don't want to rat out the other.
