Yara was born and raised in Askanna by her parents who were both members of the Steregard (her country's government).

Yara had powers similar to her parents, but she wasn't sure that she wanted to follow in her parents footsteps. When she finished school, she started working at a wildlife rescue, thinking that it could be a possible career option.

When Yara's family suddenly went missing, she fled town and wound up in Korsa, Askanna. She had been planning to sell her horse, Dusty as he had been slowing her down. It was at a horse sale where she met Lunis, a trick rider looking for new horses. He offered to buy Dusty from her, but since he knew she didn't really want to sell the horse he offered her a position with the circus so that she could keep Dusty.
