Excellent healer and herbalist, good at soothing people, quick reflexes, very fast (his long legs help)
Prejudiced against those who do not support the Council, whether they're neutral or directly oppose it, prejudiced against change (his sacrove once changed his daily schedule just a tiny bit and it took half a year before he got used to it)
Pushover, doormat, blindly trusts the Council, puts more faith in government than himself, cowardly, reacts negatively to change, avoids conflict, naïve,
Wants to keep the peace and status quo, wants to be accepted and liked by the members of his sacrove, wants to be academically successful
Terrible posture (doesn't slouch but always has his shoulders back and his stomach forward), rambles a lot, mimics lute/melodiam playing to calm himself down when anxious, hums when lost in thought
October 20th
Taught about literacy, herbalism, and healing by the Druids of his sacrove
An Oakstump was planted and brought to life by a Greenmage sometime in the 1800's. The Greenmage was executed by the Protector's Council for alleged treason and was therefore unable to raise the Oakstump. (In reality, the PC wanted to get rid of anyone who hadn't applied for a descendant certificate but still produced a descendant.)
The Oakstump lived alone in a secluded part of the Forest until he found a small village- Marekaj Village. Fascinated by Marekaj Villlage's inhabitants, he stayed with them for multiple years and learned how to play the lute and the melodiam. He picked his name, "Ferrin," from a popular children's song. He became best friends with a girl (that I haven't named yet), but they knew that Ferrin would continue to live centuries after she died.
He left Marekaj Village when the village leader was imprisoned (and secretly executed) by the Protector's Council for "failing to meet requirements for proper, legal leadership." Ferrin wanted to avoid as much conflict as possible. (In reality, the village leader had discovered the plot involving the Fendri and was preparing to leave Marekaj Village and spread his message.)
His love of nature led him to a sacrove and there he studied to become a Druid, learning trades like herbalism, potion-brewing, and healing. However, the Druids crushed his dreams of being a professional musician.
In the 21st century, he was finally invited to attend the Restoration Festival in The Protector's Territories and he witnessed the assassination of a Protector's Council member, Endriss. In the resulting chaos, he ended up with Ash. After running into a tree and fainting, they were found by Vyrelia and the Lunarwisps. Along the way, they met up with Malkrik and Hylarke, and the Wayfarers began their journey to unite the Forest’s communities against the Firebrands, a groups of rebels with the end goal of taking down the Council.
None, sacroves don’t allow pets
Ferrin's character arc is about accepting that the one thing he thought he could trust is built of lies. He trusted the PC with his life only to find out something that made him question everything he was ever taught and realize that the PC wasn't what he thought it was. (Trying to keep out spoilers). As an author, I want to point out that Ferrin's confidence throughout the story is not placed on himself but instead the Protector's Council. It's blind trust, really. The Druids of his sacrove taught him that the government was what had saved him- that a sacrove was a place where he could achieve true greatness. In reality, the PC was what made him leave Marekaj Village (and his only friend).
Don't ask about the tags, lmao. They're for a very specific chapter in Forest.

Ferrin would much rather hang out with Casia “Crypto” Elocar than the other members of the Dark Web. He appreciates not having to look all the way down to make eye contact with her (she's only 6 inches shorter). He's trying to learn Aurasense so that he can communicate with her.
Ferrin thinks that Mulciber Lavin is a good person. They both care a lot about Ash and are very protective of her. At first, Ferrin could barely look him in the eye because of his status as a Firebrand. However, once Ferrin accepted that the Firebrands weren't evil, they became good friends. Ferrin sees him as a more responsible version of Ash.

Ferrin and Vyrelia Briarly became friends because of a common job- that job being preventing Ash from getting herself killed. Ferrin and Vyr are both incredibly smart, though Vyr has a lot of previous knowledge in her head (I mean, she spent her whole life in a library) and she's good at problem-solving. However, Ferrin is "smart" in the sense that he's good at following instructions. Ferrin is jealous of how calm and planned-out her life is (in comparison to his rather wild past). Ferrin loves reading the books that Vyr's given him and he enjoys discussing those books with her.

When Ferrin first met Siren Ecovi, he did. Not. Like. Him. At all. Siren represented everything that Ferrin had been taught to hate. Siren disobeyed the PC. Siren's very existence was the result the rejection of the Forest's social norms. Ferrin didn't really hate Siren, he just didn't want to listen to him, he didn't want to understand him, he was scared that Siren would make sense. And yet Siren helped Ferrin. Even though Ferrin was awful and disrespectful to him, Siren helped Ferrin be confident in his musical talents. Siren played a huge part in helping Ferrin realize who he wanted to be. Ferrin was absolutely devastated after a certain thing happened to Siren (r.i.p.).
Ferrin is very, very disturbed by Korai "Cloud" Tauroh. He doesn't understand how Cloud can be so calm while going about his business (read: jumping off buildings and constantly putting himself in danger). He also is very put off by Cloud's, umm, sexual side. Ferrin makes sure to stay at least 10 feet away from him at all times.
"But that's- that's- THAT'S ILLEGAL"
“Fighting? As in, like, causing injury? No no no no no. No way. Nopetty nope. That’s strictly against Druid doctrine, and besides, my arms are literally sticks.”
“What? I’m not jealous. I mean, why would I be jealous? He just happens to be a better lutist, and a better singer, and more charming, and stronger, and more good-looking- okay, fine. Maybe I’m a little jealous.”

Clean water, as he can only consume liquids (juice makes him feel weird and alcohol is literally poison to him)
His Druid robes, as they give him a sense of purpose and belonging
Strictly against weapons
Ferrin likes all animals- well, except for the ones that can kill people. He prefers to watch them from afar, though, as many animals have tried to peck/gnaw at him.
