Prejudist against nobles, growing up as a casteless, Amber was always treated as worthless by everyone. Even other casteless. The worst though, were the nobles. They would sit in the diamond quarters ordering others around and live like they owned the stone.
If you ask most nobles, the brand on her face nearly counts as a disease...
Rude, straight forward, little manners. Seeing as how everyone hates her based off the brand on her face, Amber sees little point in trying to appease anyone. She speaks what is on her mind and tells it like it is. She was never taught any real "manners" so she just lives as she does. Anyone who disagrees can sod off.
Her sister, personal gain, freedom
Amber's sister, Rica, is this only person Amber truly cares about in the world. She'd give anything for Rica. Ever since they were little, Rica always took care of Amber and did her best to shelter her little sister from pain. Even when they were indentured to Beraht, Rica chose to use her body for noble hunting and let Amber be the muscle, saying that she was taking the bigger emotional toll. Amber doesn't do anything that doesn't benefit her or Rica. She has no illusions of helping others for the "greater good". What has the greater good ever done for her? She also seeks freedom. She would love to travel to the surface and escape the chains associated with being branded, but her sister refuses to leave. So, instead, she fights to free her family from Beraht's control.
Mistrusting of others, Since she assumes all others will backstab her purley because she is branded, Amber does not trust easily. Even though he is her partner, it took Amber a long time to even trust Leske, though she still refuses to leave him alone with Rica...
Stealth skills, dagger skills, stealing, lock picking, trap making
Growing up begging for scraps and fending for themselves, Amber picked up a few skills. Then Beraht showed up and gave her weapons to become his muscle in exchange for his "charity". While she wasn't happy about the arrangement, she did take what she had and make the most of it.
Target practice with throwing knives. Trap making
Not having much to do in a town where you are worth less than dirt and the only thing around is other beggars, you learn to entertain yourself. Amber practices her aim and blows off steam at the same time. She also likes to find more ways to create new traps and bombs to occupy her time
ISTP-A The Virtuoso ÷
While not afraid of people or interacting with others,, Amber surely prefers to keep to herself. Many people judge her the moment they meet her, so she adapted to being better off without others. She bases her actions off of the facts laid out in front of her. Paying attention to all the small details, sometimes she misses the big picture in doing so. Not much into her feelings, Amber tries to stick with logical answers when making decisions. While many plan out their steps one at a time meticulously, Amber finds that she runs the best when making it up she goes a long. She knows that nothing ever goes according to plan, so it's not really worth having one. Uncaring of other's opinions, Amber tends to be very assertive in her opinions and actions, rarely looking back to regret what she has done. The past is the past, and no point crying over spilled ale.
Amber was born a casteless dwarf in Orzammar. Unfortunately for her, the servants in the royal palace receive better treatment than casteless. Her mother, Kalah, had a daughter from a previous relationship and, shortly after Amber was born, her father left for the surface. Refusing to leave for the surface with him, Kalah worked cleaning the smoke vents in order to support her two children. Somewhere along the way, she began wasting her nights away drinking until the tables turned and the girls were the ones supporting their mother's drinking habits. Once Amber was old enough to understand the system, she understood her father's decision to travel topside. However, her older sister, Rica, refused to leave Kalah behind. Gritting her teeth, Amber vowed to always protect her big sister and stayed behind as well. After struggling through a few different ways of making enough to survive, an opportunity came along with a crime boss named Beraht. The sisters could join his carta and he'd ensure they had enough food to live. Rica became something known as a noble hunter - a woman who would try to impress the nobles enough to bed them. Then, if a noble lord had a male son, he would continue their lineage and the noble hunter would join the family, along with her kin. Then Beraht would claim to be some distant uncle and become royalty as well. Amber, on the other hand, became a bruiser. Partnering up with another carta member named Leske, she handled Beraht's dirty work. She always dreamed of a day she could get out of Dust Town and make a difference in the world. She knew her brand held her back and wished she could change the system and create a better life for the casteless. Instead, she dug her feet in, fought through the pain, and did her job.
No formal educating, only street knowledge. She does know how to read, thanks to Rica
Red - no, not because of blood. Actually, because of her sister. Sounds cheezy right? Rica has red hair so suddenly Amber's favorite color is red. It's not that simple. Rica always looked after Amber, always made sure she was safe, warm, and had food. More so than their mother actually. Amber's earliest memories were of her sister's red hair. She associates red with family, with warmth, with the only love she's ever felt. Red reminds her of the closest thing to home she has.
Bronto - Bronto's are big animals, three times the size of dwarves. They have tough leathery skin and several horn on their head and back. Their skin acts as a natural armor protecting them, especially thick on their neck which would normally be a weak spot. Dwarves have learned to tame them and ride them into battle. While Amber has never ridden a bronto before, she loves them because they represent strength and swift change. A charging bronto can easily break defenses and make quick pathways into an enemy's ranks. On top of that, underneath all that thick skin and menacing appearance, brontos are soft and squishy on the inside, just like the rest of us. Sometimes Amber wishes others could see that soft squishy part of her, though she'd never admit it.
Two daggers, she carries them wherever she goes. Easy to conceal, easy to wield and quiet combat. She also loves the versatility of being able to wield daggers in different styles.
A ring, given by Rica. Amber prefers not to take it off. Rica gave it to her as a birthday gift. Officially she got it from one of the nobles she was pursuing, but he was killed in some political squabble shortly after, so Rica gifted it to Amber as a reminder that things will get better some day.
Due to lack of options in dust town. Amber really doesn't have a favorite food. At this point, it all tastes like stone down here.
Carta thug, working for Beraht. She handles much of his "dirty work".
Self interest and benefits for the little man. She doesn't care much for the nobles of this wretched place, but if she could help her and her sister, she would be happy. She wouldn't necessarily mind helping out other brands, but most of them wouldn't do anything for her even if the option cost them nothing. Amber would love nothing more than to change the structure of the hierarchy and demolish the caste system.
Believes in the ancestors and Paragons. Though she was born casteless and raised to believe that she was forsaken by the ancestors, Amber still believes in the dwarven culture that the ancestors look down upon them. She doesn't work daily to make the ancestors happy, but she does hope that maybe one day she can earn their favor and rise from her low place in life.
