The Marionette

One of the three Phobia Dolls artificially created by the Puppeteer to serve him, to feed into the Death Doll’s power. She is the eldest of her sisters, being created over 200 years ago.

The Marionette hardly emotes and speaks in a cold, mechanical tone. Because of her robot-like personality, the Marionette responds to matters as a machine would, showing no signs of emotion or desire, and even at times when something doesn’t go the way she expects, she reacts with dull surprise. Because she’s the Puppeteer’s closest servant, she’s programmed to fulfill any task given to her and to achieve it any cost.

The idea that she is an emotionless robot was was quite literally drilled into her head, as the puppet control bar-like halo above her head is meant to stab her in the head and “reset” her programming/remind her of her purpose and to make sure she doesn’t deviate from what is told to her.

The only sign of sentience the Marionette is able to show is her curiosity of her connection with Andy, as just looking at him makes her feel unsettled and uncertain. She seems to “want” to grow closer to him, in order to quell her curiosity. Her curiosity might stem from the fact that she subconsciously knows that Andy is her “father” (as he is the Death Doll’s reincarnation and she was created using a piece of his corpse).

The Marionette is one of the first attempts by the Puppeteer to resurrect the Death Doll in his own image by using the Scales of Fear. Upon realizing his failure, he repurposed her into becoming a fountain of power for the Death Doll instead, by exploiting humanity’s primal fears. The Marionette embodies the fear of control and loss of autonomy.

• Because the Scale of Fear used to create her had memories of the Death Doll, she was unintentionally modeled after the person the Death Doll loved the most: Yolotli. As a result, she bears striking similarities to both Andy and Canarie. She came into being as an almost exact replica of Yolotli (albeit a female version), but the Puppeteer modified her in his own image.
