Nexatl Sunshade, also known as “Toadshade,” harbors a deep-seated prejudice against the Tabaxi, openly viewing them as inferior and believing they are meant to be enslaved. His loyalty lies solely with the Grung, whom he sees as above reproach. Nexatl has little interest in justice or serving the common good; he joined the Radiant Protectors purely because someone within the organization pulled strings for him. Ill-suited for the role, Nexatl operates with a disdain for his duties, focusing more on his personal biases than any sense of responsibility.

Despite his tough exterior and disdain for the Tabaxi, Nexatl harbors a secret dream of being a performer. He envisions himself as a charismatic showman, reveling in the spotlight. Instead of performing his duties diligently, he often sneaks away to practice singing in dark alleys. Additionally, Nexatl is an easy mark for anything that promises to increase his fame, making him vulnerable to manipulation by those who recognize his vanity and desire for recognition.

His spot in the Protectors was secured by his influential aunt, Ichtaca Darkwater, despite his unsuitability for the role. Nexatl is a complex mix of vanity and ambition, secretly desiring fame and recognition as a performer. He frequently practices singing in alleys and is easily drawn to anything that promises to boost his reputation or fame, even at the expense of his responsibilities.
