Kamiki's parents were palace guards for the royalty that existed in Brightwitch, and all his life he was trained to take up the same mantle when he came of age. Even if he didn't want to follow in their footsteps his parents figured that knowing how to fight in such a dangerous world would be to his advantage in anything he went on to do.

Unfortunately when The Collapse happened both of his parents died, and Kamiki was lost. He was too young to really be of help, and his training as a palace guard was incomplete and not likely to pick up as The Adventurer's Guild took over with the royalty being gone. To his surprise, however, Faethyra offered him and all the other trainees she could find a chance to complete their training and take up positions as guards inside the castle for the Guild.

With nothing else to do Kamiki accepted. He excelled from that point forward and quickly became one of the best, earning himself a place as a guard near where Faethyra and the other leaders of the Guild are. It's mostly quiet, but when something does happen Kamiki and the others there prove why they've earned their positions.
