Ima was born at the dawn of time, along with the other shapeshifters in Milara. A special species, but a cursed one; they could only live so long before their bodies would fail and then they would be reborn as various animals, living life as that creature until whatever would be considered adulthood before regaining their memories and their shapeshifting powers.

They kept to themselves and only ever interacted with the outside world through observation and blending in. They formed a village of their own where those not in the states of rebirth could be among their own and have a safe place to connect and share experiences.

Ima doesn't know what happened, but during one life as a human he grew up and regained his memories as usual, and then left the family he had known in that life to return to the village only to find it completely abandoned. Since then he has not found another shapeshifter ever, and has no idea what happened to them or why he was apparently spared. The gods held no answers for him, and if even they do not know what became of his people he knows he has no hope of finding answers.

The lack of his own people has led Ima to become a bit cynical, to say the least. He's grown mean and bitter over the years, unsure of who he can trust with his secrets and sick of everyone he knows eventually dying. He's tired of people taking advantage of him once they know what power he has and what power they can have over him with just one little misstep. And yet death will not claim him, for even his attempts to end himself have just resulted in being reborn once more as the cycle continues while is soul seems doomed to repeat the process over and over and over for all eternity.
