Yin grew up in Ancalen, the child of an herbalist and an alchemist working together to grow their own ingredients where possible and sell the fruits of their labor to others to make a living.

As such from a young age they were exposed to toxic substances and learned the value of being exposed to them in small doses over time in order to build up a tolerance. While attending The Crystal River Academy for their own studies they realized that a missing part of the curriculum was a class that taught such things, and upon graduation they spoke to the headmistress about it.

She realized that Yin was correct, and it would be to the benefit of their students to learn about and be exposed to potentially dangerous things so that they could be physically and mentally prepared for them in the future. After drafting up teaching plans and presenting them Yin was hired on as a teacher, and has served as such ever since.
