Owain is a grizzled veteran of the border wars. He is a shrewd man and a good strategist. He is loyal to Merlin and is happy to serve, from a distance, the son of Uther, but he is loyal to himself first. He is a hard man and has a strong sense of duty and what is right. He feels great shame for leading the armies that killed Uther, the man he had served for many years. As a result, he will not serve directly under Arthur.
